WRUP: Creepy pasta edition

Wow. That pasta right there... that's really creepy. That's intensely unsettling pasta. I don't think I can adequately explain how creeped out I'm feeling right at this moment. Also, I guess I should ask something about the identity of a phone? This may be one of those Internet phenomena that I just don't get.

You know what? We're just going to move along right now. It's time to take on this week's installment of WRUP, and as always, it's full to bursting with what the Massively staff will be up to over the weekend. It's also full of talk about whether or not MMOs are our main hobby. So click on past the break to see what we'll be up to over the next few days, and let us know what you'll be playing over the weekend in the comments.

You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?

Beau Hindman (@Beau_Hindman): This weekend I'll be doing what I do best: a few missions in a game, then on to the next one. I'll be playing some DC Universe Online, Champions Online, Final Fantasy XIV, and a new game called Castle Empire for my Rise and Shiny. Alganon has released a few new patches, so I'm excited to check those out. I'm sure I'll poke around about a dozen other titles as well, many of them Facebook or social games. Then, it's on to figuring out which games I have and have not covered, and which need to be looked at again. I've covered a lot so far, so I need to do some reorganizing.

Brandon Felczer (@bfelczer): This weekend I am going to be jumping between RIFT and Star Trek Online — after joining the guys on Massively Speaking this week, it really renewed my passion and desire to play RIFT. I am looking forward to continue leveling my Mage and maybe even starting an alt! I will also jump into STO just as much, I am sure, because a day does not go by where I don't enjoy a great round of PvP or raiding with my friends. Also, Starfleet Academy, a new social/future mission map, is finally out, so expect to see me exploring the sites of San Francisco of 2409.

As far as MMOs being my main hobby, I would say "no," actually. Because I have such a large family, I spend a lot of time out and about with them — I also love music, dancing, cooking and watching movies. Aside from my full-time job outside of Massively, and all of the previously mentioned, with the little time I do have I really enjoy playing STO, dabbling in RIFT, being an in-game Admiral of a giant fleet, and being the Executive Producer for Priority One podcast. I am a busy bee but it really makes life fulfilling.

Brendan Drain (@nyphur): I've been unfortunately hooked on a new Facebook game called Dungeon Overlord this weekend. I swore I would never play Facebook games but I can't stop playing this one. I've also been hooked back on Diablo II, so I imagine I'll be spending much of the weekend in chaos runs or Baal runs or some other kind of runs.

Eliot Lefebvre: I'm going to continue exploring Final Fantasy XIV's most recent patch, play some Warhammer Online, and perhaps most importantly I'm going to continue trying to get my apartment cleaned up and ready for moving. Yes, it's a couple months away, but there's no time like the present. Also probably going to continue searching for decent creepypasta online, since I've been inexplicably obsessed with it this week.

MMOs currently sit in a weird place for me — they're not exactly just a hobby, because they also occupy the role of "work." But I'm certainly not just playing them because of my paycheck, so they sort of blur the boundaries. I suppose that as a result of said work, they get the lion's share of my time. Which I'm not exactly upset about.

Jeremy Stratton (@Jeremy_Stratton): I'm not quite sure what I'm playing this weekend — if anything. I'm waiting to see if I can visit some more friends out of state. Runes of Magic would always be on my plate, and if I have the time, I 'd love to finally start production in Perpetuum.

My main hobby? After I moved away from all my friends to a strange land, MMOs became my main hobby. Now, as I make some new friends and venture out to explore, I've started getting interested in photography. I love photography and it gets me doing many other things and going to many places. I go to car shows, walks in the park, visiting nature reserves and more. I don't plan on cutting MMOs out anytime soon, but they aren't my main (or only) hobby. In fact, I think I have more fun playing MMOs since I've branched out.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster): My plans this weekend largely revolve around putting in a lot of time getting my level 40 Rogue in RIFT up to 50 so that I can join in with guild activities (ever feel like you're the only one not at the level cap?).

Other than writing, gaming is my main hobby for sure. Hard to squeeze in too many hobbies with work, family, and the level grind!

MJ Guthrie: It's a vicious heatwave here so I am not leaving my computer; already tried that and just about melted (computer room is the only one in the house with A/C!). I will be gathering some summer heat and AP in Aion and hopefully taking a turn on the darker side with glowy eyes. I will also be constructing a garden in EverQuest II with the two bags full of goodies I just got during Moonlight Enchantments. I am such a root beer brewing master now!

I guess MMOs are my main hobby (if you count hours spent), but mostly that's to be social with friends! If you count actual productive hours in games, the time would drop dramatically — just don't count the time I spend decorating. Hanging out with my kids, writing, reading, and graphic design round out my main hobbies. Often, I do more than one at a time.

At the start of every weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game — and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!
