Rocksmith will support co-op play with separate cable

You'd be surprised how much space one needs to appropriately rock out. We'd suggest at least three or four feet of space around you to be left clear when rocking, but if you're willing to risk rocking out over another rocker, you can pick up a special cable that lets two individuals play Rocksmith on the same TV.

Ubisoft calls it the Real Tone Cable. It'll be available for individual purchase (MSRP $29.99) alongside Rocksmith when it launches on October 18. Hit the jump for the full press release.

UBISOFT'S ROCKSMITH™ REAL TONE CABLE AVAILABLE SEPARATELY AT LAUNCH

Exclusive 1/4"-to-USB Cable Will Be Readily Available at Retail Throughout North America

SAN FRANCISCO - September 23, 2011 - Today, Ubisoft® announced that the Rocksmith™ Real Tone Cable, a unique 1/4"-to-USB cable, will be available for individual purchase at retailers throughout North America when Rocksmith launches on October 18. Using a second cable while playing Rocksmith will enable cooperative gameplay between two players.

Developed exclusively for Rocksmith, this revolutionary cable turns the guitar's signal from analog to digital, allowing it to be recognized and played through video game systems for the first time. The 11.25' cable will be available separately this fall at the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price of $29.99.

Rocksmith is the first and only video game where players can plug any real guitar with a standard 1/4" output jack into the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC, and play through an in-depth library of music including everything from the latest hits to classic rock songs. The use of a second Rocksmith Real Tone Cable allows for simultaneous split-screen cooperative play while playing Rocksmith. The cable will also allow players to plug in their instrument and record music directly onto their computer at 48 kHz. The unique cable design ensures quick release of the guitar from the game console or Windows PC to protect the player's gear and hardware.

"The Rocksmith Real Tone Cable is a cool piece of technology. Having multiple cable options will allow Rocksmith players to participate in cooperative gameplay, which is a feature of the game that we are extremely excited about as it adds to the overall gameplay experience," said Adam Novickas, US Director of Marketing at Ubisoft.

The Rocksmith Real Tone Cable will be shipping as a stand-alone product alongside the standard edition of the game and the bundle, which includes an Epiphone Les Paul Junior guitar. Both the standard edition and bundle include the Rocksmith Real Tone Cable.
