WRUP: Now I can show you this screenshot edition
With the drop of the NDA for Star Wars: The Old Republic, I can finally share with you this screenshot. As you can see, in it, my Bounty Hunter is cheering the arrival of a Mandalorian Air Whale, represented for beta purposes by our mascot Samuel. Are there actually things called Mandalorian Air Whales in the official universe? I seriously wouldn't be surprised — they call bone-plated lizards Vine Cats for some reason or another.
Speaking of that NDA drop, I think it's actually germane to this week's installment of WRUP because this week's bonus question for the Massively staff members was whether or not their impressions of Star Wars: The Old Republic were changed by post-NDA testimonials. The main question, of course, is the same as always: What will we be playing over the weekend, and what's our favorite Thanksgiving food? Find out past the break, and let us know what you'll be up to in the comments.
@nyphur: I'm planning to properly dive back into EVE Online next week with my old corpmates returning to the game to try out the Crucible expansion, but until then I'll likely keep spending all my gaming time in Skyrim. The game is just addictive!
I wasn't terribly impressed by Star Wars: The Old Republic when I first tested it, but I'm convinced this is largely because I was only allowed to play through an incredibly bad starter area. The NDA lift has definitely convinced me to give it another shot, and I'm a little more optimistic.
@nbrianna: I've been playing Skyrim, but we'll see what other stuff I pick up on Steam!
The NDA drop and other people's opinions didn't really have any impact on me in either direction. My interest in SWTOR has been going up and down over the last months, but I've had it preordered forever, and I was always going to play it with my guild. I'm in an excited phase now. Let's do this!
Honestly, traditional Thanksgiving foods don't do much for me. My family has its own delicious routine: turkey lasagna.
Some more beta testing in SWTOR, possibly some time in City of Heroes or Final Fantasy XIV depending on how much spare time I have. I'm still nowhere near the Skyrim train and have no intention of boarding, but I may honor it by playing something perilously old-school.
The NDA dropped after I had already gotten to test SWTOR, which is exactly what I had already expected it to be. Really, I haven't been watching the testimonials — there are people who have a great deal of investment in disliking the game for one perceived fault or another, and I already know my opinion isn't changing one way or the other, so I'm just staying out of that hornet's nest.
And the best Thanksgiving food, bar none, is mashed potatoes when cooked just right. Sure, a well-cooked turkey is perfectly juicy and delicious, but the mashed potatoes are the glue that holds the whole dish together.
In between food comas I'm playing a lot of DC Universe Online and EverQuest II this weekend, along with some Assassin's Creed: Revelations.
The SWTOR NDA and the discourse that followed was a non-event for me. My beta experience confirmed that the game is basically the opposite of what I look for in an MMO, so I haven't spent any time reading additional opinions about it.
My aunt's homemade stuffing is the prototypical Thanksgiving dish. In fact, it's really not Thanksgiving without it.
@Jeremy_Stratton: Fallen Earth has captured more of my time, these last few weeks, but I am looking forward to the next expansion in Chapter 4 of Runes of Magic. I imagine I'll get around to playing SWTOR eventually, but right now, it's no more interesting than any other game announcement that's been out these last few weeks.
My past self told my future self to tell all of you, in the present, that I had a wonderful Thanksgiving and stuffed my face with lots of side-dishes — especially mashed potatoes and stuffing.
@Sypster: I'm coming home from vacation this weekend, so I'll actually have some time to catch up on gaming. What's that? EverQuest II is having a double bonus weekend? I'm all over that! Might even clock in a few more hours in the SWTOR beta, although I'm loath to spoil any more of the story.
The post-NDA testimonials of SWTOR have been interesting, but they've confirmed what I've known for some time now: This is a quality game that's right up my alley, and I'm going to really enjoy it come next month.
Favorite thanksgiving food? Leftover turkey and mayonnaise sandwiches, of course!
@mackeypb: I'm playing Champions Online and League of Legends, as always. I don't really plan on deviating too much from that.
I'm not at all convinced SWTOR will be anything except another themepark, and a relatively uninspired themepark at that. I'll pass. The Secret World, on the other hand...
My favorite Thanksgiving food is turkey. Meat is the best thing ever. EVER.
At the start of every weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game — and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!
