WRUP: The sunset of 2011 edition

So it's the end of 2011. What can be said that hasn't been said elsewhere? It was certainly a year, all right, and it contained pretty much the usual number of days and hours. I celebrated my second year here, Massively got another year older, Ms. Lady and I bought a car, the usual sort of stuff. Also there were some stories about MMOs in there, some sort of news stuff. I'm not really sure. Most of everything older than two hours is kind of a haze.

Past the cut is this year's final edition of WRUP, containing all of the information you'd need for what we'll be doing on this last weekend of the year. We're also talking about whether or not we have nay traditions for the transition of years, so that's timely. Jump on past the break to see what we're going to be up to, and let us know what you have planned in the comments.

@Beau_Hindman: I'll be keeping up with my standards like RuneScape, Illyriad and Glitch but am falling back in love with Die2Nite. It's just so perfectly executed, and quite eerie. I'm trying out Kingdom of Loathing for Rise and Shiny, as well. It looks neat, but I haven't even touched it in forever.

I have no normal New Year's Eve plans. I used to go out like normal folks, but then realized that I have absolutely zero interest in attempting to navigate my way home safely while there are countless other adults who just couldn't say no to those last few drinks. If you drink and drive, you're a jerk. So me and the wife will probably stay home and play games. I'm thinking of livestreaming a game's midnight events!

@nbrianna: I won't be gaming much this weekend as I have family guests in town, although I may just show my superhero-fanatic dad the current F2P version of City of Heroes! Otherwise, I'll be jonesing for my Star Wars: The Old Republic fix and sneaking in some games on my phone when no one's looking.

We don't really have any New Year's traditions, and in fact we often get in some MMO time while everyone else is out boozing and watching football and standing outside in cold places! Sadly, watching the ball drop on TV lost basically all of its charm many years ago when I moved out of the Eastern time zone. Ah well.

Between Star Wars: The Old Republic, Final Fantasy XIV, and a plethora of games that I got over the holidays on Steam... yeah. It's more accurate to say what I won't be playing.

Ms. Lady and I generally celebrate the new year by playing a game together until the year ticks over without us realizing it. We don't really want to be out in the chaos, and the few times we've tried it's been lackluster. So SWTOR seems poised to usher in 2012.

@Sypster: It'll be a nice low-key weekend, so hopefully I'll get my SWTOR Operative to 30 and shoehorn in some time for a few Lord of the Rings Online dungeons as well.

This New Year's Eve our pastor's daughter is getting married, so that's where I'll be. Usually in our household everyone goes to bed early and then curses the noise that the fireworks make a few hours later.

@mvmatt: I'm still playing The Old Republic, and I don't foresee that changing anytime in the near future. It's the only thing on the market I haven't played to the point of burnout. Yet.

And while I do plan to spend a bit of my weekend exploring the galaxy, my friends and I do have a few New Years' traditions to enjoy, so I'll be doing that Saturday night.

Double XP means I am going to get my flying mount in EverQuest II! I will dang it! I might also sleep, but that's just iffy. Other than that, going to hang with family for the holiday.

We are very low key for New Year's. We just hang out, munch on things, watch shows, play games, talk about what we accomplished this year, and discuss any goals we might have for the new one. We do watch the last moment of the ball dropping and toast with sparkling cider (sorry, totally not into the drinking thing).

I'm finally to the point where I can start playing MMOs again after the birth of my third daughter on November 25th, so I've rejoined my old friends on a regular Tuesday-night group to play some SWTOR. I have the greatest wife ever for letting me take a few hours out for that! I also play quite a bit of mobile games like Sims FreePlay and Words With Friends every chance I get.

I proposed to my wife on New Year's Eve, so we usually celebrate that. But we're old and boring, so we don't go out drinking or partying.

@terilynns: Star Trek Online of course. And as for New Year's Eve traditions? It's my wedding anniversary. We'll be celebrating 17 years of being married and our 24th of being together. So for me, I'll be dining out and getting home to avoid "amateur night" drinkers and maybe challenging the hubby to Rainbow Road on Mario Kart Wii.

At the start of every weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game — and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!
