WRUP: Shopping for furniture edition

With Ms. Lady and I solidly moved into our new apartment, we face a new problem. Specifically, we face the problem of having a substantial need for furniture and not nearly enough furniture to meet that need. So we've absconded to the almost adjacent Crate & Barrel, which is a lot like Ikea except made of something sturdier than corrugated cardboard. Maybe not much, but it's a game of degrees.

But you didn't come here to read about my furniture shopping. Well, not just my furniture shopping, anyway. You came here for this week's installment of WRUP, wherein we of the Massively staff discuss our plans for the weekend. We also talk about whether or not we mourn the games that never saw widespread release, if any. So jump on down past the break to see what we're up to over the weekend, and let us know what you've got planned in the comments!

@Beau_Hindman: I'll be switching to BatMUD for Rise and Shiny. Here's hoping that this MUD will be as cool as Gemstone IV is! So far it's nicely made and the community is great. What is it about MUD communities that make them so nice? It's... odd. Don't they know they should be trying to gank me and take my stuff?

As soon as I read the question a game popped into my head: Seed. It was an odd non-combat, roleplaying-heavy, cel-shaded MMO that barely had a chance at life. It ran horribly but I knew that all games went through those rough stages. I'd love to see it made again, or at least an MMO that like it: sci-fi, non-combat, heavy on crafting and totally unique. Here's a video of it.

@nyphur: I'll be finishing up a seven-day trial of TERA a friend gave me. I didn't think I'd like it, but I'm finding the PvP servers great fun and there are some interesting game mechanics like aimed melee combat and directional blocking. Both TERA and Guild Wars 2 throw a lot of fuel on the debate over whether it's feasible for The Elder Scrolls Online to have Skyrim-style aimed combat, that's for sure.

@nbrianna: My World of Warcraft account goes inactive this week. What will I do?! Glitch. And then probably some Skyrim. I may have downloaded Allods Online again too. Surely it has to go better than my last few tries, right?

Ultima X: Odyssey. Yeah, I wanted it. A lot. Definitely mourned it.

Not a lot of time to game this weekend, and I've been at a low pulse for MMOs recently. I think I'm going to switch things up this weekend, try and dive headlong into a little City of Heroes and some offline gaming. Or maybe head in a different direction altogether, load up some free-to-play games for a bit. I'll see where my passion lies.

There are a lot of closed games I wish were still around, but not as many games that didn't get released. I do still like the initial plan for Tabula Rasa, though.

@elixabethclaire: The Secret World's got a beta this weekend, and I'm really hoping to get to know the game better. We're not really on first-name terms yet, and I'd like to put in enough time to get suitably cozy with it. Looks like I'll be stress testin' it up with Guild Wars 2 on Monday, which is nice. Aside from that — who knows?

I really wish I could've seen Guild Wars: Utopia come to fruition — because of the concept art (some of which was absorbed into Eye of the North) if nothing else. There was one piece in particular — The Hub of Time, by Daniel Dociu — that's always left me feeling a little bit wistful for the campaign that never was.

I'm playing The Secret World. When I'm done with that I'll probably play some more TSW, and perhaps a little TSW on the side. EVE Online's in there too, somewhere.

Can't say that I really mourn any unreleased games, though I would've liked to see how Middle-Earth Online turned out.

@Jeremy_Stratton: I know I'll be playing Vanguard and EverQuest II, because I'm livestreaming them over Friday and Saturday. I'm having too much fun hunting in Vanguard, so I'll be playing that the most. It's cheating, but the original plan for six Xenosaga games is what I mourn never happening.

@Sypster: Three words: Teh. Sekret. Wurld. Ooh boy, my spellchecker did not like that one bit. Apart from poking enthusiastically at Funcom's intriguing MMO, I've got a lot of projects going on in Lord of the Rings Online that deserve my utmost attention.

I'm Mr. Mourn the Games That Never Were. Was that in question?

I plan on being in that same secret place many others are finding themselves this weekend. Wooo! I have waited many years for this. If I can tear myself away, I may tour more of Tiamaranta in Aion and possibly finish just one of my housing projects in EverQuest II. But I am not holding my breath.

I don't really mourn much because I tend to just be grateful for what I do have. And there are many games coming out I want to dip into — I am wondering where on earth I will ever find the time!

@mackeypb: I'd like to play TSW this weekend, but I may have some other IRL obligations. You can be sure I'll squeeze in a game of League of Legends or three. I've been working more on general skills lately, though I've been playing Poppy a lot still. Even in my losing games I tend to have positive ratios with her.

I don't ever really mourn aborted games because I don't really fall prey to hype. I am sad that Starcraft: Ghost didn't come out, but that's not an MMO. In the MMO-sphere, I tend not to get really excited about a game until I'm playing it. I guess I'm really sad that the good BioWare MMO never came out, if that counts.

@terilynns: I'll be taking Tessa through the Breen missions in Star Trek Online to get her the Breen bridge officer. After that a few fleet members are looking for help in getting other ship sets they haven't been able to get yet. I just took part in my first STF in almost 2 years. Had fun! Of course, I completed it on the normal setting. I'm not sure I'll ever brave the elite setting.

Since I've never looked forward to any other game as I have STO, I haven't mourned one that hasn't come into existence. Lucky me?

At the start of every weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you playing this week?" (Otherwise known as: WRUP!) Join us to see what we're up to in and out of game — and catch us in the comments to let us know what you're playing, too!
