Breakfast Topic: When was your class at its best?

Reader Zeer dropped us a line with an idea he had for a Breakfast Topic, and I liked it so much I decided to write it up. We can all hark back to the glory days of our classes, the days when we were the best at what we did, without compare. Back when our rotations made us happy, as we wove spells and pets and totems together with the fluid grace of a ballet dancer. Back when our DPS was so overpowered that we and our restoration druid buddy were practically unbeatable in the arena. We remember abilities we've loved and lost or that were nerfed or altered along the way.

But wait, let's take the rose-tinted glasses off for just a moment here. With my saner eyes, I also remember the days of the fixed 9-6-9 rotation for paladin tanking and the one-button macro it was possible, if not advisable, to use. The days before spell priorities, when rotations were the way to go. I remember those bits too; perhaps it wasn't all sunshine and lollipops in the past.

And how about looking forward? For example, I'm really, really excited about the shaman changes in Mists, and I'm wondering if Mists will be the restoration shaman's moment to shine — something we haven't had since back in the day and only to an extent toward the end of Cataclysm, when the developers tailored fights to our strength rather than just working on our flaws. But that's a rant for another day.

So what do you think? When was your class at its best? Is it at its best right now? Or will it be at its best in Mists? And, of course, why?
