Breakfast Topic: Could a WoW LARP work?
An odd part of my checkered past is that I used to LARP. That's Live Action Role Play, for those who haven't had the pleasure. While my particular flavor tended toward the vampire (look, it was in college, and I was single, and I'm not proud), I took part of all the various flavors — werewolf, changeling, sword and sorcery. One of my favorite games was based (loosely) on Game of Thrones; the game was so good that we made it work, even with a setting not really built with LARP in mind.
If LARP could best be characterized as "dressing up in capes and talking in funny accents," then I wonder if a WoW LARP couldn't be made to work. The obvious question is what you would do with your time. Even vampire LARPs tend to degenerate into a fang-filled dungeon romp, with very little difference from your average raid finder experience. With that in mind, couldn't a WoW LARP work even better, focused on the adventure, monster-killing, and odd faction aggression?
The WoW pen-and-paper roleplay games never really seemed to blaze new territory, but maybe that was the mistake. Maybe what we needed was live action, a chance to get out in the sun and talk in funny accents. What do you think, noble readers? Could a WoW LARP work?
