Breakfast Topic: Have you ever changed your name?

I've been doing a lot of thinking about WoW lately, and matters of my and your in-game identity keep coming to the front of my mind. Today I'm thinking about names and what they mean in terms of character identity, and it's come to mind to ask if you've ever changed your character's name.

I have, a couple of times, but always with race changes. I didn't feel that my chirpy gnome death knight's name really suited a dark undead death knight, so I changed it. But if it hadn't been offered as part of the faction change, I would probably have left it as it was. I get quite attached to names, you see. They form an important part of a character's identity, and even though I don't roleplay seriously, a character's perceived personality.

So how about you? If you've ever changed your name, why have you done so? If your name is Xxarthäslol, why haven't you changed it? We need to talk ...

And have you ever had to change your name thanks to a Blizzard ruling or some other reason? If so, did it make you feel like you'd lost some part of the character, like you'd lost a part of your online identity? Have you ever had to change your main's name, and what was the impact, if any?
