Breakfast Topic: How do you make your own fun?
But it's not just the gifts I enjoy — I have a bit of a mischievous streak. The first day I set out Blingtron in the middle of the Shrine of Two Moons, I noted he immediately got a flurry of traffic from players that noticed the blue exclamation point suddenly popping up on their minimap. I was terribly happy that so many people were reaping the benefits of my engineering toy. But then I started wondering just how far people would go to get to that daily quest marker on their minimap.
So I invented Blingtron Hide-and-Seek. Now when I place Blingtron in the Shrine, I find someplace a little out of the way, a little harder to locate. And then I sit back, stealth, and see how long it takes for people to find him. The first day, it was behind a pillar, and a flock of gift-seeking players immediately located him and swarmed en masse. Today I decided to hide him behind a stack of crates, which didn't really sway people at all. Tomorrow ... well if I told you I'd be giving it away, wouldn't I?
It's not just a fun toy, it's also a way to make my own game-within-a-game. And for me, it's awfully fun to watch. I hope it's fun for the people looking for him, too — kind of like a daily scavenger hunt. How do you make your own fun in game? Do you have certain tasks you like to perform a certain way? Do you like using TCG items like Party Grenades or other toys to amuse people around you? What makes the game extra-fun for you?
