Ubisoft giving Minecraft a promotional Far Cry 3 makeover

Far Cry 3 content coming to Minecraft

Ubisoft is breaking new ground in uncomfortable marketing, by promoting Far Cry 3 with a free Minecraft map and texture pack. The free pack, downloadable on PC October 26, adds Far Cry 3 locations and characters like "Vaas, Jason, and Citra," allowing you to keep Far Cry 3 and its December 4 release date fresh on your mind while playing a completely different game from a different company.

Ubisoft also sent over a series of images depicting Far Cry 3 promotional art with Minecraft imagery added. The actual playable content will be the other way around.%Gallery-168485%

WHAT: Today, Ubisoft announced the creation of a map and texture pack for Minecraft inspired by the Far Cry 3 universe, which is to be released for free on PC on October 26, 2012.

This pack allows users to explore and survive the Minecraft experience through the warped lens of Far Cry 3, with modifications to all aspects of the original game, including environments, weapons and tools. Discover key Far Cry 3 locations and characters, including Vaas, Jason and Citra, all completely redesigned in Minecraft style. The map also features over 50 Easter Eggs, hidden throughout the Islands.

With the map modded by Michael Lambert (Sacr3, creator of Newcraft City), a well known Minecraft enthusiast, and artists Axel Janssen and Yohann Delcourt responsible for the textures, the Far Cry 3 inspired pack will be released for free on PC via the Far Cry official website.

Far Cry 3 is scheduled to release for the Microsoft's Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows® PC on November 29, 2012 across EMEA and on December 4, 2012 in North America.
