XSEED RPG Ark of the Ages out on Android

Niche publisher XSEED xpands to mobile games this week with Android RPG Ark of the Ages. The $2 dungeon RPG takes place in the ancient "Tower of Magic," which you must explore as a knight of the Royal Order.

It combines third-person navigation – using dual (virtual) analog controls to navigate trap-filled spaces – with first-person, swipe-controlled combat. An iPhone version will also be released in "the coming weeks."

Ark of the Ages definitely isn't an anomaly; instead it represents a new business for the publisher. "Mobile games represent a new segment for XSEED Games and are something we are very excited to pursue in 2013," said XSEED president Shinichi Suzuki. "With so many great devices on the market, mobile gaming is becoming more and more appealing to hardcore and casual gamers alike and we are looking forward to bringing fun and innovative new titles to our fans."

Torrance, Calif., (March 1, 2013) – XSEED Games, an independent-minded publisher, is pleased to announce today that the company's first mobile title, the full-featured action RPG, Ark of the Ages, has been released for Android devices via Google Play and is now available for download on Google Play at a price of $1.99. Developed in Japan by Meteorise, Ark of the Ages offers 3D console-style graphics on the go and a deep roleplaying experience that sends players into the depths of deadly dungeons and offers an immersive battle system. An iOS version of the game will be available in the coming weeks as well.

Set in a visually-striking fantasy world, Ark of the Ages puts players in the shoes of a young knight of the Royal Order who has been dispatched to Emilie village to investigate a series of recent incidents. Located near the village are the remnants of a massive ancient tower known as the Tower of Magic, which was constructed by the great wizard Sorienz a millennium prior. It is here that players will be challenged to prove their worth to the Royal Order.

In Arc of the Ages, players delve deep into a series of mysterious dungeons in search of loot, prosperity and furious battle. These dungeons are vast, winding complexes in which exploration is played from a third-person perspective, and players will be tasked with navigating and avoiding various pitfalls such as swinging blades and endless chasms with intuitive console-style dual analog touch inputs. Filled with monsters such as skeletal knights, goblins and golems, each dungeon presents its own unique challenges, and players will frequently find themselves entering into battle. Upon encountering an enemy, the camera shifts from a third- to first-person perspective, putting players directly in the battle. Offensive combat is executed through a series of swipes across the screen simulating blade slashes, and attacks can be directly blocked through properly timed use of the characters' shield.

Throughout their adventure, players will encounter all kinds of loot with which to customize their character, and items, weapons and equipment are completely customizable. By equipping items and weapons found in dungeons or purchased in shops, players are able to mold characters to their preferred play-style. The game also features a social aspect, taking full advantage of the GREE community platform to allow players to connect to their friends online. As the number of friends present increases, players gain a variety of bonuses such as increased frequency of special attacks.

Boasting 24 unique dungeons, epic first-person combat and a deeply customizable RPG experience, Ark of the Ages is available now for select Android devices on Google Play at a price of $1.99, and is published by XSEED Games in North America.
