One Shots: Taste the rainbow

One Shots Taste the rainbow

I think rainbows are pretty darn cool, especially when they double up and you can freak out appropriately over them. More MMOs need rainbows, I think. Rainbows in raids! Rainbows in space! Rainbows in that dour death zone for ambiance!

Reader Marshall and his crew know a good rainbow when they see one, as evidenced by our first One Shot of the day. "Some friends and I decided to try out Ragnarok Online 2," Marshall writes. "We ended up spending more time taking screenshots than playing the actual game that first night. These were some of the best ones."

I think my retinas may be on fire due to the intense colors, but I don't mind. Rainbows! Will there be more rainbows in the rest of today's player-submitted screenshots? Sadly no, but we'll persevere nevertheless.

A lot of folks have Final Fantasy XIV on the brain, especially as its relaunch heads closer to us every day. Reader Myr testifies that it's gotten way better than the original version of the game: "Here is my Miqo'te Conjurer in front of the atheryte at a redesigned Camp Bent Branch. The original game was pretty, but I think it managed to get even better."

This series, online or offline, has always been outstanding in terms of visuals, so I expect no less. It might not be enough for me to check it out; go free-to-play and then we'll talk, m'kay?

This next picture is either from EVE Online or from an eye surgery video. Seriously, that looks just like something that would pluck your eyeball right out of the socket, give it a good cleaning, and then put it back in with a maximum of screams, doesn't it?

Reader Kalaratiri took this shot in a remote section of the galaxy: "Deep in the uncharted realms of wormhole space, a lone traveler takes a moment to admire the majesty of design left behind by the mysterious 'Sleepers'."

Why do they sleep? It's space. It's kind of boring. Sleep and Netflix are like the only two options there.

If you're into interior decorating, reader Danielle has you covered! "I can't say enough good things about RIFT's dimensions," she writes. "I'm not max level yet because I've been spending so much of my time (joyfully) hunting for artifacts to help fund my Dimension addiction. Here I used the side of a table to create fancy window dressing and flipped a weapons rack upside down and inserted it into the wall to make supports for the fireplace shelves. Behind my tavern, I built a huge rock cavern and just outside I've created an entire forest. The whole area has a dark secretive theme, perfect for roleplaying a mystery adventure."

I totally love it, Danielle! I'm also quite jealous. My house looks like a place where a haunted clown lives. I need to learn from you!

"Hi, you may know me as Desiree, the Elven warrior of mystery. However, did you know that I used to be a photography minor at the New York Film Academy? Taking pictures has always fascinated me, especially when I was able to capture a slice of authentic game life.

"While I chase screenshots now instead of taking them, it doesn't mean that you can't start up your own MMO photography hobby. Ask your parent or an adult friend to show you how to work the Print Screen key and then start experimenting with angles, emotes, and awesome vistas! For a bonus exercise, assemble your photos into a scrapbook that you can show at parties and interventions."

Desiree stood up and looked straight into the camera. "Who knows -- you might become as famous as I am some day, just through the magic of photography! The more you know!"
