Xbox One leaker gets trip to launch event, early consoles restricted from Xbox Live

Twitter user @Moonlightswami, the lucky-but-also-unlucky guy who got an Xbox One early, spilled details regarding his experience on Twitter, and was subsequently blocked from accessing Xbox Live, will be a guest at the Xbox One gala launch event, Kotaku reports. Microsoft has some bad news for anyone else in his shoes though: even if you got a console early, it won't do you much good, as it won't be allowed to connect to Xbox Live.

Swami, real name André Weingarten, tweeted a slew of pictures and impressions once he had the console, and uploaded an unboxing video to YouTube. Shortly thereafter, his Twitter account was locked due to excessive posting, and his video had received a copyright claim from Microsoft. A few hours later, his system was banned from Xbox Live.

Microsoft made a statement to Kotaku regarding what happened to Weingarten's console, and what will happen to anyone else's console, should they receive an Xbox One early. The statement notes that while the company is "pleased" to see positive impressions, "given we are still putting the finishing touches on our games, UI and online services, as well as confidential partner and media agreements, these console units will be restricted from connecting to Xbox Live until closer to our launch date."

So if you, like Weingarten, received or will receive an Xbox One before street date, your console is going to be severely restricted in terms of what it can do. It won't be able to download the all-important day-one update, which is required of every Xbox One. And thus, the wait continues.
