The Queue: Silence

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.

I'm in a bit of a rush this morning, so I chose today's header image by scrolling down our front page and picking one I liked. Enjoy!

ScottLeyes asked:

Can we have a moment of silence in tomorrow's Queue for the passing of Warhammer Online?

For a single second, I considered today's Queue being this question and then a bunch of empty space and nothing else. While I would've had a laugh, people would've been pissed, so let's not do that.

We can, however, have an ellipsis: ...

Matthew2 asked:

What will 2014 be like?

Like 2013 but slightly more shiny.

wstomlin asked:

Okay, if we're not going to get auto-levelling professions, do you think that Blizzard is going to do quick catch-up profession levelling for all professions in WoD?

The developers have mentioned repeatedly their intent to add more catch-up mechanics for professions, so I would be surprised if Warlords of Draenor didn't have them, either right at launch or shortly after.

@julianmarcon asked:

Why are the Alliance and Horde still fighting in WoD?

Honestly? If the Horde hasn't signed on with the "bad guy" warlords, then I have no idea beyond the game being Warcraft. Maybe even Durotan wants the draenei dead. What we know of the scenario right now doesn't place much conflict between the factions, except that the Horde wants to piece themselves back together after Garrosh tore everything apart.

@Xerrabaldy asked:

what actually did happen to Sundays missing queue?

Time paradox.

In all seriousness, Mike Sacco very likely just had something come up. The vast majority of us are out on the weekends. No news ever happens on weekends around here and there's little else to do those days. Considering we're all here Mon-Fri, some of us for more than 8-10 hours a day, we like to take a breather on the weekend. Because of that, if something goes awry on the weekend, we're less capable to scramble a replacement.

So Mike had something come up, then none of us were able to pick it up until it was so late in the day that it wasn't worth it. Publishing a Queue after 6 p.m. on a Sunday is just silly.

Draxiticus asked:

What does Blizzard need to do to get people to want to be in active guilds in WoD? Perks only guilds seem popular.

Personally, I don't think Blizzard needs to do anything. Let the players decide if they want a guild, and if they want one, what kind of guild they want. If, for example, players aren't joining the guilds they like because that guild hasn't unlocked all of the perks, then that's a problem. But if people who don't want a social experience out of their guild are joining silent ones just for the perks, I don't see that as a problem. Any attempt to convince players to join a guild will inevitably make it feel as if guilds are mandatory.

All of those people joining perk guilds that don't do anything else? They're doing that because Blizzard tried to get people to join guilds.
