One Shots: Weather forecast

One Shots

We've got a lot of great player-submitted screenshots revolving around weather and the environment in-game, starting off with this fantastic picture by Star Trek Online player Chris.

"Here is Captain Hannah Welch and the senior staff of the USS Aurora on the surface of an alien world at dusk," Chris writes. "This is one of my favorite screenshots -- it captures what Star Trek has meant to me since I was a kid. A tight group of friends in a universe filled with wonders we've yet to see. One of my favorite quotes from the series (from the pen of Maurice Hurley) comes from Q at the end of the episode that introduces the Borg; 'It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross. But it's NOT for the timid.'"

I'm very used to seeing rainbows in Lord of the Rings Online's Shire, but I can't say that I've ever witnessed this particular phenomenon.

This image comes from Different Chris, who comments, "Here is a night rainbow (a nightbow?) outside Gwingris in Eregion. My Champion, Levir, was grinding through some of those blasted wood trolls when I suddenly saw this. I had heard that they existed in the game and was so thankful for getting to see it myself."

Wait, how does that work?

I've heard such good things about the sailing portion of ArcheAge that I really can't wait to get out on the open waters and set course for adventure. Pictures like this from reader Jordan aren't helping!

"It's just a beautiful, clear, summer day with Senorzerg!" Jordan taunts my very soul. That's OK. I'll just sit here in Detroit and dream of a better life as a fun-loving pirate. You can actually live it.

Moving away from clear skies, here we have a murky harbor in Final Fantasy XIV. Reader Chiana apologized for filling up my inbox with pictures, as if that were some great crime (it's not!), and then set the scene for this shot.

"It's a very foggy (almost-)evening in Limsa," Chiana says. "This is one of my favourite screenshots actually. It sort of reminds me of the original Limsa opening scene from version 1.0. Makes me feel nostalgic!"

Our screenshot challenge of the week is to take a picture of your favorite in-game tavern, bar, or club. Where does your character go to down a good drink and dance an evening away? Show us!
