Sprint announces new 'IPhone for Life' leasing plan

iPhone for Life

Following Apple's iPhone 6 announcement, US wireless carrier Sprint took the wraps off its new wireless service plan that'll allow subscribers to get a new iPhone every two years. The new "iPhone for Life" plan costs US$70 per month and includes unlimited data for individual customers.

As part of the agreement, Sprint is allowing customers to rent their iPhone, paying nothing up front for the device. Customers instead pay a $20 monthly access charge along with their monthly cellular service. After they fulfill their two-year contract, customers can turn in their older iPhones and upgrade to the latest model.

Customers who choose the iPhone for Life offer can select either the Simply Unlimited plan for $50 per month or the 20 GB Family Share Pack for $100 monthly. Family Share subscribers can take advantage of the iPhone for Life plan on multiple lines, allowing all members of a family to stay current with their iPhones.

Sprint Chief Executive Officer Marcelo Claure hopes this program will help attract customers who are leaving the carrier for rival T-Mobile that is shaking up the industry with it "Uncarrier" initiative that did away with traditional contracts and offered customers bonuses for switching.
