PS4 2.01 firmware rolling out, aims to fix Rest Mode issues

PlayStation Europe announced a new PS4 firmware update is "rolling out today," designed to fix at least one of a range of issues that cropped up following the 2.00 patch. The company's Twitter account said the 2.01 update "addresses issues some users have encountered when powering on the system from Rest Mode."

We've successfully downloaded and installed the 2.01 firmware through PSN Europe - the update notes didn't offer any further clarification on the patch beyond addressing stability issues. Typically Sony's firmware rolls out worldwide at the same time, and a tweet from the main PlayStation account indicates 2.01 should be available stateside "soon" if not already.

While Sony's big 2.00 update added new features to the PS4 including Share Play, it brought with it a variety of issues for some users, including the Rest Mode one as the comments here attest to. Users found they couldn't power the PS4 on from the standby mode. According to Kotaku, holding the power button down until the console turned off was one way of getting out of the Rest Mode rut.

So, if you've been having the Rest Mode issue or any of the other ones that have come up since the 2.00 update, please let us know in the comments if the 2.01 patch helps. According to user reports, the issues have included sound level fluctuations and YouTube connectivity problems, among others. Meanwhile, an alpha test for Turtle Rock's Evolve had to be delayed on PS4 because of problems that arose following the 2.00 update.

We've reached out to Sony for more info on the 2.00 update's issues but have yet to receive a response. On Sunday, November 2, the official PlayStation account tweeted, "We're aware of issues happening post PS4 2.00 firmware, including some freezes and boot errors. [We are] working to resolve [them] ASAP, will update soon."
