'Prison Architect' is coming to consoles this spring

A classic sim with a modern twist.

Incarceration simulator Prison Architect is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox 360. The game, developed by Introversion Software, was independently crowdfunded a few years back and has been a hit on PC, selling over 1.5 million copies to date. The console version is being handled by Double 11, which previously ported Limbo, Goat Simulator and several Pixel Junk titles.

Prison Architect builds on systems introduced by older titles like SimCity, Theme Hospital or Dungeon Keeper. You're tasked with building a prison, and there are many, many ways to do that. You could create a figurative holiday resort for criminals (although you'll likely go bankrupt doing it), you could create a draconian hellhole (good luck with riots) or you could perfectly balance making a profit and your inmates' happiness.

The console version will include a few extras, such as "Warden Mode," an introductory setup that automates some processes for you. There will also be an online aspect, "World of Wardens," which will let you download and play other people's creations, and share your own. Prison Architect is due for release this spring.
