iPhone 7 may feature new casing
As the expected official announcement of the iPhone 7 in September steadily approaches, supposed leaks continue to make their way into the wild. It's not even been two weeks since the last leak yet, but we're already learning more about the highly-anticipated device.
Most recently, the Dutch tech blog TechTastic posted an image of what it claims to be the back of the upcoming device, although we're not certain about its authenticity. The image, allegedly sourced from Chinese social network Weibo, is questionably blurry and low-res, and that's just the beginning. The spacing between the "iPhone" branding and the text that's always featured the text, "Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in China." doesn't seem to feature the appropriate text, as the second sentence appears to be printed in Chinese. This is something that's historically never happened on even a Chinese device, as the second sentence has been printed beneath the first for Chinese editions.
Other distinguishable changes to the casing include the addition of a noticeably larger camera module as well as the rerouting of the plastic antenna bands, which seem to have made their way onto the sides of the device and around the edges, as detailed in schematics.
Despite the suspicious aspects of the leak, if the source is accurate, we'll also be finding that the iPhone 7 will be half a millimeter thicker than its predecessor, while being slightly narrower and just a hair shorter. Although a negligible difference, it could hint at completely rearranged innards to accommodate new features and components – perhaps a larger battery or new screen technology, but it could just be that the camera changes require more space. Regardless, we'll find out come September!
Renders were also released, comparing the iPhone 7 to an existing iPhone 6 or 6S and claiming that the iPhone 7 will feature a new, darker color availability to complement the currently existing Space Gray. Although the rumored color remains unnamed and, more important, unconfirmed, we're eager to discover if Apple will have any more surprises in stock for us at their press event. With so many features to look forwards to, including rumored expanded storage and dual-SIM support, we just can't wait until we can get our hands on a new iPhone.
What do you think about the validity of these leaks, and what are you hoping will be different on the iPhone 7 from past devices?
