The 7 Apps I Can't Live Without

The modern world is something that none of us can escape. With everyone glued to their phones it was only a matter of time before we all bought into the fact that we all need those essential apps to get us through the day. As an Editor at The Idle Man, my life can get pretty hectic, even after work, so I need to have some essential apps to get me through the day; everything from my email app to Instagram, I need it.

Email

Of course, we can't live without our email, it is the most essential part of my job as I have to keep up-to-date with what's going on within the company and the blog. My dedicated email app allows me to do everything that I can on my laptop, but on the go! Whether I'm on the train, bus or searching for that minimal signal on the underground, I can always access my emails.

Linkedin

Linkedin is not only a great tool for finding work, but it's always a great way to keep in touch with colleagues and potential people that I could work with relating to The Idle Man. Linkedin allows me to see what the latest news is with the world of menswear and journalism, so I can research and create possible content for the blog.

Instagram

This has to be one of my favourite apps, for both personal use, and professional. I can look at the latest cat pictures whilst scrolling through some of the latest menswear blogs and influencers in the menswear world. I can also see what has gone up live onto The Idle Man's own instagram page whilst checking engagement and seeing what we can do to constantly improve The Idle Man's page.

FaceBook Pages Manager

Again, not only is FaceBook a great app to have to see what's going on with my friends, but the FaceBook Pages Manager allows me to see what's going on with The Idle Man's FaceBook page. This is a key tool to have as I can track the engagement on posts, check the reach that they're having and see what we can to improve reach on certain posts.

This is also great to have because, from the information about engagement and reach, see what images work best for, not only FaceBook, but the blog as well.

Google Analytics

As an Editor I work a lot with numbers oddly enough. As a growing menswear blog, we have to track everything that goes on with the blog, whether it's traffic, revenue or the top ranking posts. Google Analytics allows me to check each day exactly how many people visited the site, bought something and which post they have viewed. It sounds pretty technical, but it's something that i need to know to fully understand what works for the blog and what doesn't.

Remember the Milk

Not only is this app a great example of play on words, but a handy tasks app that's always at my fingertips. As an Editor I have a lot of things to do daily, but Remember the Milk allows me to have a constant list there waiting for me, even though I do still write everything down, it's always good to have a virtual copy on hand.

Skype

Now, I don't use this app to send funny gifs of cats to all my friends, much, but what I do use the Skype app for is an instant messaging service. Sometimes email just doesn't cut it, especially if you need an answer then and there, so this is where Skype comes in handy. I can instantly find out anything from my colleagues that I need to know, and send images for email and the blog without the hassle of email.
