Logitech's G900 Chaos: Is It a Superior Gaming Mouse Indeed?

I am making a prediction. Logitech's G900 Chaos will be the most popular gaming mouse of 2016. Unlike some of the other past mice from Logitech, which have been a bit disappointing, this one definitely sets Logitech back on top for serious gaming. The feel, the features, and the price all come together to make what I think is the best there is out there right now. Kudos to Logitech. I am waiting to see if other gadget reviewers agree with me.

Packaging/Components

Let's take a look at what is included.

  • G900 Chaos Spectrum
  • Braided Cable – nice touch; good quality if you need to use it
  • Wireless Dongle
  • Sidebuttons/blockout pieces for both sides
  • Micro USB to USB adapter to use the dongle on the mouse cable
  • Warranty

Note: Even the box screams quality on this one! The simple small boxes of the other G-series are gone. This one looks a lot like the Mionix Castor box.

Weight and Shape

These are personal preferences, of course, but I found the G900 bulkier than a Sensei, in the back especially, and somewhat flatter than, say, the ZA11. And its profile is higher than either of these others too. It looks sort of like the ambidextrous G402, but it will feel bigger in your hand – personally I like that feature.

The G900 weighs 3.9 ounces and has 11 buttons, if you use them all.

The Feel and the Look

As I said, it feels bigger, but it is certainly comfy, and after long hours of use, I had no discomfort at all. The Pivot Button design and unique form just feel right to me.

Being able to customize the buttons is a big plus, as is the ambidextrous design – my friend who is a leftie loves it.

Everyone has a unique mouse grip, so getting it into your hand first will be important. Several friends, with widely varied grips, all claim great comfort. And because of that comfort level, the mouse has almost perfect accuracy and the clicks are clean, crisp and precise. Gamers with big hands who have a claw grip as I do will find nothing more comfortable.

There aren't a lot of reviews of the G900 out there yet, but I will be interested to see what other gaming mouse reviewers have to say as we get further into the year.

As far as the look of the G900, it is certainly futuristic, and seems like a design and shape that most serious games will love. Of course, this, too, is a personal preference, but I am thinking that bringing this mouse into any gaming environment makes a statement that you might have an edge. It just has a "powerful" look the might be a bit intimidating.

Speed

The Pixert PMW3366 optical sensor really says it all. From a performance standpoint, I think you will find this the fastest and most responsive gaming mouse you have used so far. The sensor is, hands down, the finest in the industry because of the accuracy of its tracking. There is literally no filtering or smoothing (200-12,000 DPI), and it is totally responsive and controlled at any speed. For FPS and CS: GO gaming, this is the best mouse.

And one last thing: the scroll wheel in this mouse has a both a left and right scroll click – not important to me, but it may be for others.

Battery Life

Again, Logitech does it right. You'll get an average of 31 hours on a charge, which is about the best there is. When using it, I got anywhere between 28-34 hours. If you compare that with other mice of similar weight, this is the longest battery life.

After 30 minutes of non-use, the mouse will go into sleep mode, but as soon as it is touched it takes less than a second to come back to life and be fully functional. And, as a side note, friends with different Windows versions (Windows 7, 8.1 and 10) say it works perfectly.

And the Negatives?

Again, this comes down to personal preferences about feel in one's own hand and performance based upon grip and button functionality. Some of my friends say that the main buttons occasionally move a bit to the left and right, but only when they are not holding the mouse in a normal way and they are actually trying to do that. Others don't like that there are no ledges to the sides of the main buttons, and this may account for some of that left and right movement.

Price might be another negative factor as you can find much cheaper gaming mice, which are almost as good as G900 Chaos. It's definitely not the cheapest gaming mouse out there, but then again premium quality costs premium price.

I am sure that there will be other negatives pointed out as more reviews come in, but those are the only one I have experienced.

Conclusion

It's probably obvious that I am a big fan of the G900 Chaos. For the money, it is sleek, futuristic looking, has a great design and a great feel for me. And with one of the best sensors in the industry, it delivers on everything that Logitech promises in terms of speed and accuracy. This mouse, as I said, is going to be the most serious "player" this year.

Logitech has a history of responsiveness to gamers. It looks like it will continue to be just that with this roll out.
