Xbox mobile apps get new name and look

Now just called Xbox, it puts the activity feed squarely on the home page.

Just in time for its big E3 event, Microsoft has revealed a new Xbox One Smartglass app for iOS and Android. Actually, let's call it what it is -- now simply the Xbox app -- because the company done a major rebranding of the apps and dropped all the rest. The other big change is the look, as Microsoft has brought Android and iOS in line with its Windows 10 apps for PCs and handheld devices.

The other major updates are social, as the activity feed is now the home page, making it easier for gamers to find screenshots, clips and other media shared by pals. Microsoft has also redesigned user profiles, added game hubs, and updated Xbox One navigation and media control from the app. Other features include trending content, a Facebook and contact list friend finder, real name sharing and redesigned user profiles (no sign of LinkedIn integration, yet, thank God). All of this is, of course, in service of the console, and speaking of which, Microsoft should be announcing a new one, the Xbox One S, in just a few hours.
