  • AndPlus: Inside Boston's Best Software Development Company

Since the advent of the Apple App Store in 2008, mobile development as we know it changed forever. Gone are the days of third party software being exclusive to desktop applications. With the App Store came a level playing field for developers around the world to compete in. Companies came and went with relative frequency and only the most efficient, skilled and talented teams remain today. AndPlus is a company that was there from the start and remains atop the pantheon of elite developers today in 2016. Founded in 2009 in the midst of the App Store gold-rush, AndPlus found a niche in what they call 'Connected Software', that is, software that is integrated with hardware. Connected Software has many uses through many industries such as medical devices for hospitals or even fire safety equipment. Since its founding, AndPlus has advanced to creating exceptional custom software for any industry that demands it. How does a small startup become the best software company in Boston? I reached out and connected with one of the minds behind AndPlus, Brian Geary. "I think it all stems from our process. We use the Agile development method which is an organized systematic process that allows us to create MVP (minimal viable product) and iterate from there." Says Brian as he expounds upon the Agile process. "The way we handle working in so many industries is by employing staff in all fields. We have healthcare experts, electrical engineers and business analysts among our development team at all times." When I asked about what customers AndPlus has developed for I was impressed to hear that names like Bloomberg, ESPN, Honeywell and Harvard University were among their roster of clients. The world of connected applications is growing exponentially. Hardware components to software apps are ubiquitous in the medical, engineering, consumer electronics and manufacturing fields. These companies are seeking development firms like AndPlus to create custom software for tailor-made solutions to their problems and processes. These applications are specific to not only an industry but to a specific company which makes them more scalable, harder to hack, and offers better maintenance and support than an off-the-shelf solution. "Being the best is what we pride ourselves in. Right now in 2016 we're the most successful firm in not just Boston, Massachusetts but the entire New England area. In 2017 we hope to not only retain that success but expand on it significantly." Brian is confident in the ability of his team but what do you need to get in touch with AndPlus? What type of projects to they take on? - "The easiest way to contact us is through our website AndPlus.com but you're always welcome to call us at 508-425-7533. We're willing to talk to anyone but our typical project has a higher level of complexity than your standard website or simple mobile applications, and normally , databases, and APIs. Our projects normally start at 2-3 months with our larger projects spanning over a year. We'll work with you for as long as you need us and we provide support and maintenance for the lifetime of the project." It's no mystery why AndPlus has taken the software industry by storm. From a small startup to a major player in the custom application industry in less than a decade AndPlus is one of the Boston areas most exciting businesses.

  • Video: NASA discovery of earthlike planet Kepler 452B & more

By now you've surely heard the news. NASA has announced the discovery of a new earth like exoplanet! I made a video answering some simple questions about it and what you can expect The first exoplanet orbiting another star like our sun was discovered in 1995. Exoplanets, especially small Earth-size worlds, belonged within the realm of science fiction just 21 years ago. Today, and thousands of discoveries later, astronomers are on the cusp of finding something people have dreamed about for thousands of years -- another Earth. - NASA Briefing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTf74to2XE8 Engadget's video embedding is currently broken so click the link above to head right into the good stuff. • Does your iPhone have a good or bad A9 CPU?

There's a little drama brewing less than two weeks after Apple released it's brand new line of iPhones. As reported by Anandtech, the A9 processor of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus were dual sourced from Samsung and a company called TSMC. The differences between these chips was not evident for some time as fans assumed the smaller 96mm² by Samsung would be the superior chip. Users are conducting tests and reporting the results via forums on Reddit and Mac Rumors which have resulted in the conclusion that the TSMC A9 has approximately 2 hours better battery performance than the Samsung. [reddit user test done multiple times] A developer called Hiraku Jira has released an unsigned program (install this at your own risk) to identify which chip is in a specific device and is charting the results of everyone who tests their device. 70% of 6s phones have the TSMC processor while only 40% of 6s Plus phones have the TSMC inside. Another (potentially safer) method of identifying your processor is though a free app called Lirum Device Info Lite directly from Apples own App Store. Just open the app and look at the main page under "Model" the results are: N66AP (6s plus) or N71AP (6s) - Samsung chip N66MAP (6s plus) or N71MAP (6s) - TSMC chip
