  • Passing On "Geek"

I prefer the second definition of Geek: a knowledgeable and obsessive enthusiast. That accurately describes me from the moment I was able to get a screw driver in my hand. At a very young age I was taking apart various electronics in our home, everything from an ancient calculator to CRT monitors. I am amazed I was never severely electrocuted...or maybe I was and I have no memory of it. Hmmm All throughout middle school and high school I would ride my bike up to the local grocery store and purchase a tech magazine and then I would read it from cover to cover, full page ads and all. I could tell you the difference between the Intel Pentium 4 and the AMD Athlon 64 right down to transistor count, but ask me what year the War of 1812 took place and I wouldn't have a clue! As I grew up and got married I still continued to Grow Up Geek, I have several boxes of electronics, cords and cables that I probably will never use again and yet I won't let my wife get rid of them. A geek always has a spare cable, just in case. I hope to carry on the tradition of being a geek, my three young children all can operate my iPhone better than most and my son is constantly curious, he just unwired my home stereo and then just sat and watched me wire it back up when I got home from work. I am proud to have grown up geek, are you?
