The Coolest Gadgets to Get Around Town
One of the best things about Sci-Fi movies and TV shows is the ideas that people come up with about daily activities in the future. Touch screens were in that category at one time and are now everyday things. Cool gadgets to get around town were another staple with electric bikes and tiny pod-like cars being popular – but now many of these gadgets too are making it into the realms of real things that we can buy ourselves. One wheel At the forefront of creating these cool gadgets is a company called Airwheel and their products definitely look straight from a big-budget Hollywood movie. Small and cool looking is the X8 – a single wheel unicycle that uses a whole range of futuristic technology to give the best ride while turning it is done simply by tilting slightly sideways in the direction of travel. Weighing just 11 kilograms, it is ideal to carry around town and can reach a maximum speed of 18kph. Two wheels If you prefer two wheels, then Swegways have become extremely popular in recent years and not just for people who are eager to keep up with the latest trends or teens hoping to become the next YouTube sensation by trying to perform old school skateboarding tricks on it. Characters on popular TV shows and celebrities like Justin Bieber happily showing off their Swegway swag have only upped the hype. The Swegway is flexible; without the handle bars you have more opportunities to explore different tricks and even invent your own version of hockey games or the Swegway War Challenge. On top of that, several models come equipped with built in Bluetooth speakers which can be linked to phones and allow riders to listen to their favourite tunes on the go. Three wheels Continuing the Segway theme is the three-wheel version that has been made famous by law enforcement officers around the world who use them to get around. These sturdy vehicles have standard lithium ion batteries that charge from normal terminals and the models for law enforcement come with lights and sirens! They also have independent direct rear wheel drive and a 4.3 inch colour display that is rechargeable by sunlight. Four wheels Remember those one-person car pod styles you saw on TV? Well Toyota's new i-Road electric vehicle is definitely heading in that direction. The vehicle can plug into a normal 100 volt plug and has enough juice to run for around 30 miles at a time. It is also very easy to manoeuvre and has self-stabilisation features for a solid ride. Fans of snowboarding or surfing will love the Boosted board which combines a 1000-watt motor with the features of a traditional skateboard. It can reach 18-22 mph and a single charge can run it for around eight miles. No wheels Hoverboards came with a bang and faded away a bit but then some of the big names began looking into the technology. The Lexus Hoverboard is ongoing at the moment but makes use of strong magnets to get lift and liquid nitrogen cooled superconductors to keep the ride moving – while generating a brilliant mist effect!
