Motorola Quench XT5 diagrammed, spec'd?
If you lost interest after seeing the picture, we can't necessarily say we blame you -- trackballs are so 2009 -- but be that as it may, Motorola still hasn't announced or released its long-rumored Quench XT5 model. The slate has popped up on Cellpassion today with an apparent diagram (from a user's manual, it would seem) along with a bunch of specs that would place it squarely in the low- to midrange of the crowded Android arena: Eclair, integrated FM radio, DivX compatibility, and 3.2-inch HVGA display stand out to us, as does triband 7.2Mbps HSDPA radio. Interestingly, 850MHz isn't one of those 3G bands, which let's us safely rule out a US launch -- logical, of course, considering that the original Quench was a European CLIQ XT in the first place. Around back, you've got a 5 megapixel cam with flash, so not all's lost -- but needless to say, it better be priced aggressively to get any traction at this point.
Motorola Milestone to get Android 2.2 in Europe and Korea in late Q4, Dext 2.1 upgrade looking bleak
Until now, Milestone owners could do nothing but to envy Droid users rocking the Froyo upgrade; however, according to Motorola's recently published timeline, the former device is now slated for the same dessert party in Europe and Korea in Q4 -- specifically, "beginning at the end of this year," which could well mean the majority of users won't get the update until 2011 (!). Meanwhile, said upgrade is still "under evaluation" for Canada, Latin America, Mexico and Asia-Pacific sans Korea. But here's the real heartbreaking news from the same chart: unlike their American counterparts, the Dext and Backflip will not be getting an Eclair update in Europe, Latin American and Mexico, while Canada and Asia-Pacific still have a glimpse of hope. Sure, it's not like Motorola's earlier timeline laid any concrete details for the European Dext, but there was definitely a date for the Latin America flavor. What concerns us the most is that back in January, Motorola did make a promise -- which has since been deleted but forever cached by Google -- to its European fans on Facebook: "[the] Dext will get the Android 2.1 upgrade as well." In case you still care, other devices mentioned in the timeline include the US-only Devour (no 2.1 update), Cliq XT / Quench (2.1 in late Q3 / early Q4; under evaluation for Canada and Asia-Pacific), Droid X (Froyo upgrade in late summer, which we knew), Motoroi and Titanium (2.2 in Q4 in Korea for both). If you're still mourning over the canned update for your Dext, let us remind you that there's no stopping you from updating your Android slider manually; alternatively, there's no harm in sending Sanjay a nice postcard, either. Motorola Quench (and CLIQ?) XT3 / XT5 get an FCC reveal
Remember that so-called XT502 "Greco" from Motorola that the Bluetooth SIG slipped a few details on last month? We can't blame you if you don't, so allow us to refresh your memory: it's supposedly a full-touch Android device with 850 / 1900 / 2100MHz 3G, and from the looks of the tiny, crappy image they'd posted, it'd probably be a midrange phone. Well, the FCC just passed a Motorola handset codenamed "Greco," conveniently, and a look at the test docs says that this phone will be known on the market as the Quench XT3 and XT5 (we're not sure what the difference will be between the two exactly). As you might recall, the current Quench is the international version of the CLIQ XT, which makes perfect sense -- the XT is a midrange full-touch Android phone, so as far as we can tell, we're looking at its successor here. No word on who will be getting it in the US, but the version that's been approved is for WCDMA bands II and V -- so AT&T (which already offers the Backflip) seems the likely candidate. No firmware stupidity this time, alright, guys?
Motorola Backflip, DEXT, and Quench all inbound for Canada in the first half of the year
Without naming names, Motorola's Canadian outpost dropped some teasers today that versions of all three of its midrange Blur-powered Android handsets for GSM networks -- the Backflip, DEXT, and Quench -- will be coming to the country in the first half of 2010. What's more, they'll be hitting "all three national wireless carriers" -- a little bit of a slap for Mobilicity and WIND, yes, but generally good news for the overwhelming majority of subscribers. Perhaps the most interesting bit here is that they've called out the DEXT by name, continuing Moto's tradition of going with European branding over American for its Canadian launches, a trend started by Telus' Milestone. We don't yet know which carrier will get which phone, what they'll retail for, or precisely when they'll be on shelves, but needless to say, the Google-powered situation north of the border just got a whole lot prettier.

We had a quick tour today of Motorola's new Quench -- or CLIQ XT as it'll be called on T-Mobile USA when it launches next month -- and for an eighth outing in the Android world, it's pretty slick. Sure it lacks keyboard, but the touchscreen is pretty responsive and now includes Swype input on the virtual keyboard -- and we've found with a bit of practice and patience, Swype can be really fast. The soft touch plastic rear of the set can be removed to slip on over covers and shows off the 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and dual LED flash. Motorola CLIQ XT / Quench joins the Android family at MWC
Motorola has just announced its eighth Android phone at MWC, dubbed the CLIQ XT or Quench outside the US (and previously known as the Zeppelin). Highlights include a 3.1-inch touchscreen with a mysterious "high-resolution" (last time we heard, it was 480 x 320), "pinch and zoom" touch capabilities, 5 megapixel camera (with autofocus and LED flash), a navigation touchpad and a dual-mic noise cancellation system. The rest of the features are pretty bog-standard: stereo Bluetooth, AGPS, FM radio, Motoblur and Adobe Flash Lite. Unlike the CLIQ there's no physical keyboard here, but if that's how you roll then look out for T-Mobile USA's launch and pricing for this phone next month. The rest of us shall quench our thirst with something else for the time being.
