Kris Holt03.23.2022First 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' trailer entrusts Ecto-1 to Egon's grandkids
Nearly a year after audiences got a super short tease of the new Ghostbusters movie, we finally have a full trailer. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a continuation of the original series -- unlike Paul Feig's 2016 reboot -- and is being directed by Jason Reitman, the son of series director Ivan Reitman. Finn Wolfhard and his sister arrive in a rural town after inheriting a mansion from a mysterious family member. After paranormal activity shakes the area, the kids discover their grandfather's trove of ghost hunting equipment -- a jumpsuit labelled "Spengler" is among the PKE meters and proton packs.

Sony is testing a fun new augmented reality experience in Japan to commemorate Ghostbusters' 35th anniversary. Starting on October 12th, the company will give fans the chance to become Ghostbusters at the Ginza Sony Park in Tokyo. Trainers will lead a pack of participants, wearing what the tech giant says is a prototype AR headset, around the park to exterminate ghosts that appear throughout the venue.

When it was first announced earlier this year, it had seemed Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered was set to be a PlayStation 4 exclusive. In August, developer Saber Interactive said the game is also coming out on Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. Today, the studio shared a first look at Nintendo Switch gameplay, with none other than Dan Aykroyd narrating the video.

Christine Fisher05.30.2019'Ghostbusters World' combines 'Pokémon Go' and turn-based battles
Ghostbusters World is a mobile game from Ghost Corps -- the Sony company that "owns" Ghostbusters -- and South Korean game developer 4:33. The developer is no stranger to big-name franchise games, and released DC Unchained earlier this year. Here, however, the company has sought to bolt the franchise onto something more successful: Pokémon Go.
Daniel Cooper10.22.2018What's coming to Netflix in September: 'Black Panther' and 'Maniac'
Fall is in the air, and with the changing of the seasons comes the changing of what's available on Netflix. The headliners this month are Black Panther and second seasons for a trio of Netflix originals (American Vandal, Atypical, Iron Fist) and Norm Macdonald's talk show, but there's plenty more to keep you glued to the couch, too.
Timothy J. Seppala08.22.2018'Ghostbusters World' AR game is coming to Android and iOS this year
Using AR to promote movies isn't entirely new. We've already seen official movie tie-in augmented reality apps for Spider-Man: Homecoming and the Jon Hamm vehicle, Marjorie. Now, though, Sony Pictures is taking things a bit farther with Ghostbusters World, a mobile AR game based on the popular film, television and comic book franchise. The title is currently in development with 4:33 Creative Lab and should launch sometime this year on iOS and Android.
Rob LeFebvre02.23.2018Android's official augmented reality toolkit is available to the public
Google's take on a mobile augmented reality framework is no longer limited to a modestly-sized preview. It just released ARCore 1.0, letting anyone publish Android apps that take advantage of the toolkit to meld virtual objects with the real world. To no one's surprise, Google has already lined up apps from big-name brands to take advantage of the new platform. Snapchat has an AR "portal" that takes you inside FC Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium, while Porsche lets you explore the Mission E Concept as if it were parked in front of you. A number of games (such as Ghostbusters World and a range of titles from NetEase) and home furnishing apps (Sotheby's, JD.com, Easyhome and Otto) are also on tap.
Jon Fingas02.23.2018Twitter can’t separate verification from validation
2016 was a dumpster fire of a year for Twitter. Abusive language and toxic interaction became the norm across the microblogging site as it saw a dramatic rise in activity from users on the far right and their crystallization into the alt-right movement. But for as painful as last year was for the company, 2017 has seen it steadfastly refuse to do little else but pour more gasoline on the flames.
Andrew Tarantola11.09.2017How artificial intelligence can be corrupted to repress free speech
The internet was supposed to become an overwhelming democratizing force against illiberal administrations. It didn't. It was supposed to open repressed citizens' eyes, expose them to new democratic ideals and help them rise up against their authoritarian governments in declaring their basic human rights. It hasn't. It was supposed to be inherently resistant to centralized control. It isn't.
Andrew Tarantola01.20.2017'LEGO Dimensions' makes me like things I hate
2016 has been a rough year for Ghostbusters fans. After more than a decade of rumors and false starts, the franchise finally got a new film -- but the reboot's cast of leading ladies turned a spotlight on a misogynistic minority within the fandom's community of cosplayers and prop-builders. When the dust settled, we were left with a movie too mediocre to extinguish the hate surrounding it, yet not nearly bad enough to warrant the outrage. For me, this became a personal problem: How was I to reconcile a lackluster film that I just didn't like with my weirdly fervent love of Ghostbusters? The answer, it turns out, was LEGO Dimensions.
Sean Buckley11.04.2016'Candid,' the anonymous chat app, enforces civility with AI
If Twitter, 4Chan and Reddit are any indication, people will exploit even the barest of anonymization to be complete and utter asshats online. Just look at the recent attacks against Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones, or Reddit's self-induced purge of racist, xenophobic and bigoted chat groups. Fully anonymized social services like Whisper or Yik Yak, where unidentifiable mobs can unceasingly bully other users, are no better. An app called Candid, which launches today, is designed to fight this unacceptable online behavior with artificial intelligence.

'Ghostbusters' is a perfect example of how internet movie ratings are broken Walt Hickey, FiveThirtyEight The reboot of the 1984 classic hits theaters this weekend, but the criticism of the new Ghostbusters has been flying for months. FiveThirtyEight takes a close look at internet ratings for the film as a way of showing that you shouldn't always rely on those numbers when making a decision about which movie to see. "People put far too much faith in numbers that are preliminary, decontextualized and, in the end, oversimplified," Hickey concludes.
