17-inch MacBook Pro due in June?
The 17-inch MacBook Pro is coming sooner or later, we all know it. But
it sounds like our most common bastion of Apple rumors, AppleInsider, got a call from their, um, insider at Apple, and
apparently the 17-incher is supposedly due to be launched in time for June's WWDC (where last year they announced the Intel partnership, if you
remember); nice, but we're not too happy about the idea that supposedly the 12-inch version of the MacBook Pro didn't
show up on their product roadmap. Is that because it's being replaced with a proper ultraportable widescreen
equivalent? Who knows? Not us, and perhaps not even the Insider's insider.

what about the mac mini? would there be any sort of update for our little friend.
For Apple's sake, I hope there's a 12-inch somewhere in that roadmap... and if there is, eventually ... please, screen resolution greater than a cheesy 1024x768 would be just swellll.
I became a convert to the “Church of Mac” last year upon buying a 12” PowerBook. I sure hope Apple realizes that a lot of users want a portable (12 inch) MacBook Pro.
Actually, I wonder how many people prefer the 12” form factor?

Hey ENGADGET...You forgot to mirror over the IR dot on your mock up in the reflection ;)
yay! a 17" macbook. Too bad they didn't change the name back to powerbook.
you think we can get a full sized keyboard, with a num pad on this beast? it's got the room, why not use it for a real keyboard, instead of more speakers?
it would be cool if instead of a 12" laptop it would be their suposed "tablet"....
#8 I do... I live and DIE for his steveness and all his delicious apple products !
I believe that they phased out the 12" one out so that they can bring in the new Tablet one that they've been talking about. Most likely the tablet will be 12" and have the same type of stuff that a regular notebook would have.... I guess :S
Wonder if this will have only one mouse button? Also wonder when Jobs will wake up and realize the average mac user is sophisticated enough to handle more than one button.
Just PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have a top-of-the-line graphics card in the 17" Macbook. The Ati Mobility X1600 in the Macbook 15" just doesn't cut it when the Nvidia 7800 Go has been out for several months. Hopefully the added space in the 17" will allow for the larger, hotter, 7800 Go.
I personally don't see the point of the 2 button trackpad on the mac. I've been a windows user since 3.1 and when i bought my iBook i feel a little akward with the 1 button trackpad... but on mac is not needed most of the time.. heck is not even convenient... And being left handed it has been more usefull to me this way to manage it with my left hand... Strangely enough when i use it with a mouse it absolutly has to have at least 2 buttons and a wheel, that's when the intuos comes in. But for the most part, i'm begining to use less and less the second button. Is just usefull in a couple of programs and some videogames and that's when my windows pc comes in but mostly my nintendo ds, gamecube and other consoles.
Anyhow i feel that for the track pad is not necesary the second button, it is even less convenient and the rarely ocasions it has to be used the CTRL key is really near
#2: When my parents gave me the choice between a 14" iBook and a 12" PowerBook last summer (going-to-college laptop), it was no contest: the 14" iBook. Even with the added PowerBook stuff (better graphics card and processor), I simply couldn't take the tininess that is the 12" PowerBook. So, sorry, I hate the 12" models. They can go to obsoletecomputerland.
In response to CajunLuke:
I see where you're coming from, but the 14" iBook and the 12" PB has the same screen resolution. So it being bigger offers absolutlely no benefit. If anything, you are getting a slightly better screen on the 12" because it has more pixels per square inch.
I think the fact that Apple hasn't touched the 12" PB in sometime signals it is EOL. I would expect a new form factor, probably something like 13.3" widescreen.
#15..if I'm informed correctly, Apple will replace the 12.1" for a 13.3"W.
I have to admit, Apple is an excellent hardware company. I can't wait to get my hands on one of these so I can load Windows Vista on it.
That "insider" had better watch out; Apple's army of fascist lawyers are on a roll when it comes to taking out people who do things Apple doesn't "like."
I love my 1.33GHz PB17, and have only two complaints. Apple solved the first one by increasing the screen resolution. My other one is the lack of dedicated page up/down keys. Such a useful function shouldn't take two hands.
Everything else I love about it - the low heat, the backlit keyboard, the light sensor, the professional look to it -- all light years ahead of any other laptop. And OSX rocks!
I will be first in line an intel-based one.
Such a larvish MacBook Pro labtop wants no less money from the consumers, :-)
Personally I'm waiting for the kinks to be worked out on Intel. I would like to be able to run any program I want, and at the usual speed, before I buy a new one. Especially all my Adobe and Macromedia products. Those are kind of important to me! I'm scared to see what happens to Dreamweaver as a result of the Adobe merger. I *hate* Framemaker!!

I am a designer and look forward to the new 17" model. I have a 17" powerbook right now, and believe me, I use 200% of my screen real-estate. Bumping up to a higher resolution would be a great use....
I will only buy it if there will be a 1920*1200 version, 2560*1600 whould also be much better, Two DVI-I ports to have two 30" cinema displays and the Macbook running simultaneously whould instantly make me a Mac user. I have to manage stocks, currencies ect... stuff .Above all it looks delicious
As an academic who's replaced his desktop a long time ago with a laptop )I have been through a series of Apple Laptops...Powerbook 140, PB 5300,PB G3 and now a G4 12" which is at the end of it's 3 year spin. Time to move on...but I can see myself ending up buying an end-of-the-line G4 12" over a 15" MacBook.
If you are really busy and you are working/writing academic papers whereever you can eek out time, the 12" beats every other machine hands down... small, fast enough and light..only gripe: no backlit keyboard and battery could be better, but else nothing to improve...the form factor should be kept...I can see the use of a 17" (or 21"!) for many but fail to see what a 15" even exists... Everyone who has ever taken a 12" for a spin doesn't want to give it back...
Apple, this a no brainer..don't go bigger. Look at the small end of the car market. There were really nifty small cars out there (look at the size of the initial VW Rabbit and now look at the beast. It's beefed up...for the better? Nope. So don't fall into the trap and 'beef' up the 12" to 13.3...make it a fast, long-life and well desgned 12" and people will be happy...
ah yes..and keep the alu case. My 12'" dropped from shoulder height onto a concrete curbe when the strap of the carry bag broke its swivvel pin...now the machine loks like it's been in a car accident, dented and bit twisted..but runs just fine...did not miss a beat! Now that's compact and study design...
yes! the 12" macbook pro is a must!!! Please Mr. Mac bring it on-
But hopefully the 12" can drive a 30" cinema...
