PS3 November delay official -- other deets revealed
So,
not only did we get all those PSP
goodies this morn from Sony's Ken Kutaragi at a hastily called press conference, but we also received official
confirmation that indeed, the PS3 will ship
worldwide in November, delaying the Spring launch that we all expected. As recently as just a few weeks ago Sony had staunchly denied
the delay, though, and is now laying the blame squarely at the feet of the "copyright protection" in
Sony's own Blu-ray Disc next-gen format, which is now expected to be finalized by next month. Whatevs, at this point
we'll just be happy to see ours land Stateside in time for the holidays. Mr. Kutagari also confirmed that at least some
PS3s will feature an upgradeable 60GB disk supporting the Linux OS, support a variety of TVs, and have backward compatibility for PlayStation 1 and 2 games. Also, that rumored HUB service was
confirmed, which will go by the working title of the PlayStation Network Platform, and will be free (the Basic version
anyway) supporting voice/video chat, messsaging, on-line shopping, and more. While an exact price for the PS3 was not
stated, a minimum price range of about $425 was announced. See, fessing to the delay wasn't so so hard now, was it
Sony? Glad you finally got it over with.

Well, this is news.. Kinda.. Where are the specifics? All we have is a suppposed launch date which is exactly what Sony gave us months ago when they said "Spring 06". I call BS on the "copyright protection" delay.. If this was really the delay then there would be plenty of games in development and numeours PS3 development kits available.
As for pricing, I would expect "the premium" PS3 to cost between $500 and $600 (most likely somewhere in the middle).
Not sure if any of you read text of the Sony announcement today, but Sony did confirm that all of the games will be on Blu-Ray (DRM) vs. having the first batch on DVD. So, if you do not have a TV that supports HDMI (some older HD sets only supported DVI or Component cabling), you are out of luck it seems (if you want to watch the games in 720p or 1080i).
As for console availablity, if you live in the US and expect to get one of these for Christmas you will have three choices. Reserve one NOW (and that does not guarentee that you will get one in Nov/Dec either), wait in line and hope to get lucky, buy one on Ebay for $1500+... You know Sony will make these more readily available in Japan and then US, and then the Europeans will get the scraps... So all those Sony fanboys who bashed Microsoft and how they handled their worldwide release of the 360 are going to get the exact same release for the PS3..
The other issue that I see is game availability. It is reported that there will be anywhere from 6 to 15 games available on release this holiday season compared to about 48+ for the 360... If the Nintendo Revolution comes out with some hot games initially, the PS3 could be in trouble out of the gate just do to the most important aspect of buying a console. Its games...
WOW!! I cant believe this, people fighting over consoles. Dont you people have anything better to do then fighting and praising one system (when in truth both systems will be successful and be equal in most respects). Is all this fighting proving anything? I think not. Now to the people that are just saying stuff and not bashing others, this messege of mine doesn't apply to you. To the others i'd say you got to grow up and find a life.
few thoughts, by pass this comment if you are more interested in writing "fan boy" all the time and wasting peoples time when reading forums.
any one here think they should consider upgrading some of the proposed guts of the ps3, including graphs chip, other wise that rsx stuff they talked about at E3 will be 1 and a half years old by the time we see it. Is this something people should be concerned with.
if pc graphics cards are anything to go by, then is the nvidia chip gona be out dated by then (just a thought from some one who was playin far cry on the pc about a year ago at 1240 x 1080 or wat ever it is, and far cry with the new shader model about 6 months ago, which looks stunning).
recon im gona get a 360 now (graw looking prety dam good at mo) and then get a ps3 next year. unless they turn round and anounce another release date.
i agree with what people are saying about a crap excuse though, copy right my ass, wheres all the sh*t hot non pre rendered kill zone style stuff that game developers would have had for a "spring launch". I got well sucked in to the hype, even had that ps3 toolbar rubish. probably not there fault but they had hardly any info on it, wonder why.
I want both systems, so dont give it all the fan boy crap. I didnt think much of my mates xbox360 when he bought one at christmas, but that was with all them rushed games. things are looking quite good for it now.
Seen as though the two systems are gona be a year apart, why dont all you anoying spolied kids stop bitchin about who is gona have the best console. Maybe you will have a job by the time the ps3 comes out and you can get both. (comments im refering to are on all sites by the way, no affence to this one)
3 quick points:
1. Why does anyone care how many games are available for a console? Are you going to buy all of them at once? It should be about how many QUALITY games are available. All you really need for a console launch is 1 or 2 QUALITY titles. Give me Madden and GTA in November at launch and I'll be set for 6 months.
2. In that same regard...how long until Gates announces HALO 3 is being released in November...
3. Personally...I think later is better...we as consumers should dictate when a console life cycle is supposed to end and not game companies. Soon they're going to be selling us "next next gen" consoles every 3 years. I can just see a damn video game clerk asking me if I want to pre-order by XBOX720 when I pick up my PS3. I feel like Nintendo is the only company that really needs to get a new console out right now.

Umm. I don't know maybe some people like variety with their games? Maybe some people don't feel like dropping $600+ dollars just to play Madden 07? Maybe some people finish a game in a few weeks and don't feel like putting their $500 gaming system on the shelf for 3 months waiting for the next decent game release..
All the indications are that "Gears Of War" will be the big game for the 360 in 06 (and rightfully so) and that Halo 3 will come out in early 07.. Maybe we will find out at E3.. All I know is that there are some great FPS games coming out (Ghost Recon is AWESOME on the 360!) and I think Gears Of War may be on par with Halo based on the screenshots and trailors I have seen...
I would be more than happy to buy a new console every 3 years. Let's face it, technology changes too quickly and five years is too long for a console to last in my book. I am not a huge PC gamer since I own a Mac and they are just not made for gaming, so I say bring on a new console every 3 years! I would like to see the consoles stay under the $500 mark, but time will tell...
"Remember when $425 got you a brand new videogame system with two controllers, three games, some Mountain Dew, and all the extra dongles you needed?"
I remember when I could see an saturday matinee movie with a pop, popcorn and candy for under $5. It's called inflation.
In todays dollars a console would cost:
Atari VCS $811
NES $350
SEGA Genesis $389
NeoGeo $1041

#54. Telling by your name can you tell me what are some good games that are comming out for ps3? I'm new to this so can you please tell me because you seem like you would probably know.
"54. GODDAMN IT, i do NOT take my medication and do NOT require it to. Face it you're just another MICRO$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$44OFT FAONBOY who wants to blow Bill Gaites and sing "I LOVE WINDOW$$$$$"
Here are the reasons the PS3 will destroy all challengers including Micoro$$$oft, Nintendick, and all others:
1. cell processoer will give it artificial intelligence and ability to make its own games, thats right it will make up new games while it is running
2. bluray will replace TIVO, VCR, DVD, Laser-Disk, tape caseettes, etc. You will be able to store your entire movie collection on the ps3 with a hidden internal hard drive
3. the games will be so immersive and awesome that you willbe able to have sex with in them and feel it (maybe with special controller)
4. it will be better than anything Micro$$$$$$$$oft and Ninentdohhhh come up with for th enext five years maybe longer
15. so powerful it replaces peoples desktop computers and families will buy five or six ps3s causing massive profits THE FIRST YEAR
I know you micros$$$$$$$$oft fans can't handle it but this is all a given, I will be hear laughing and gloating when it happens HA HA AH HA HA HA HA HAHAHAH HA"
Jeff K, is that you?

#1: Sure, i won't belive until i see it. This is from the wonderful world of Sony. AKA; lies, lies, and more lies.
#47: whoa! lay down the sugar, asshole., you actually type like a 3-year old. I mean really, who write "rulez" to stand out of the crow these days?,certainly not cool people with an active brain. You should not be allow near a computer.
#54: NEWS ALERT! PS3RULEZ IS CrAZeE!!!@*&^+?%
Now, I'm trying to process and interpret your post in a intelligent non-violent way, but to be honest i just can't stop laughting at your idiotic posts.
So, you have contacts all over Sony, heh? well then tell us, who's the contract manufacturer for the PS3?,, what's the name of the company across the street from Sony's Tokyo headquaters?, who's Ken's favorite piece of Hollywood ass?, Does Sir Howard wears a hair piece? is it true Qrio wanted out of Sony to be in the upcoming Buck Rogers movie? did AIBO ran off to be Paris Hilton's pouch., What is 1+1? Already know, i just want to confirm we are both getting the same level of information leakage.
What a little Asshole.
Am I the only one worried about the copyright protection? I heard that when you get a game for the PS3 that it will in encode something onto the game. Making it usable only on your PS3. Is this true?
Come on you got to be excited, apparently this is going to be much better a twice as fast as the xbox 360, the 360 will be nothing on the PS3,
i like poking beehives for a good cause, so here goes...
(yeah, the numbers change, but it doesn't matter)
#25:
>"Honestly, Xbox 360 hasn't really done much to take away a big chunk of the market, with their production issues and lack of games (as of yet)."
what market?... the console market as a whole? microsoft came into the game late... later than any modern producer of consoles... and they have similar types of numbers that sony did when the playstation was fresh off the turnip truck. hating on microsoft for their current market share is like blasting a marathon runner for being in second place even though he didn't start until 4 hours after the leader.
but if you were referring to the next-gen market... i'd say microsoft pretty much owns the block by default, no? pretty hard not to be #1 when the competition hasn't showed up yet.
>"I know Live is important to them, but it seems like people play Live Arcade games more than they play the actual 360 games."
you should go check some stats on how many hits xbox live gets from halo 2 each week by itself... trust me, microsoft isn't wetting their pants about the success of arcade games. i'm pretty sure they didn't get a few million people to subscribe to xbl's "gold" level of service by promising them backgammon and marble madness.
>"Also, to me personally, 360 is exactly the same as Xbox except with improved graphics. C'mon MS, where is the innovative, exciting gameplay we're looking for?"
i guess you're entitled to an opinion, but since it's quite obvious you don't own a 360... or a high-def tv... let me set the record straight--anybody who believes this isn't next-gen is just crying because they can't experience it the way they truly want to. yeah, they made the graphics better... a LOT better... but i'm not sure your "innovative, exciting gameplay" comment is even relevant. after all, you probably haven't actually played burnout revenge, graw, pgr3, nfs:mw, or condemned yet... so how could you possibly know innovation when you saw it? if you have, then i apologize... but i still gotta wonder--what the hell is ps3 gonna do that's so much better and makes their system "true next-gen"? downloadable game demos, trailers, arcade games, media-center integration, custom music in-game via streaming mp3s from your desktop computer, unified online experience, and plenty of other features... oh, yeah--and HIGH-DEF... sony has 8 months to do better, and the clock is ticking.
#29:
>"Hmmm, sounds like the supposed failed 360 launch to me(expensive console, hard to find, huge eBay market, somewhat dissapointing launch lineup, feels like gen 1.5) I mean, they won't be able to make enough consoles to meet demand."
so if ford releases a new 2006 'Blah', and it's expensive, hard to find, has an unusually high re-sale value, and in your opinion isn't all that great... then that makes it completely logical to call it a 2005.5 'Blah'? perfect.
#32:
>"That leaves the ball firmly planted in Sony's court. If they come up with the goods they will (again) stuff Microsoft in the console wars."
so now the 360 is a 'resounding flop'. i guess it really hurts your fanboy feelings to note that the original xbox was released at a time when sony hardly had any competition... and yet they still ate into sony's market share more than nintendo ever has. i'm pretty sure even bill himself didn't expect to release the xbox and immediately destroy the playstation empire. as a matter of fact, i think we're all pretty sure he was just looking forward to the 360. rome wasn't built in a day, and neither were sony's rootkits (look, just because i use lots of logic doesn't mean i can't ignore it when i want to).
#38:
>"...(which, in my opinion is a hit to Microsoft when a year or 2 down the line 1/2 of your games cant be played or ports cant be made to available to 1/2 the audience)..."
you are aware that sony will be using emulation to support their old games as well, aren't you? don't bet on all those old ps1/ps2 games working either. anybody who ever thought the xbox was slated to have an 8 year life like the ps2... was off their rocker. MS wanted to compete with sony... now they are... sorry they didn't ask your permission first. all companies the size of MS or sony like to make money, you know. besides, just pull out your damn xbox/ps1/ps2 to play your old games if you're really that attached to them. kataguri was the one that said people should work overtime to make sure they can get their ps3. these new systems should last a while, since they have so many features to extend their lifespan. i'd advise you to go ahead and get over it, though.
#41:
>"Simple reason -XMas time people will shop for new electronics and why not buy the new PS3. 360 is so 2005."
and ps2 is soooooo... umm... umm... when was that thing released again? ;)
#56:
>"In that same regard...how long until Gates announces HALO 3 is being released in November..."
any moment now...
>"...we as consumers should dictate when a console life cycle is supposed to end and not game companies."
why else do you think that sony didn't drop the ps3 2 years ago? the ps2 is still selling like hotcakes... the only reason you'll ever get a ps3 at all is because microsoft is giving sony a reason to innovate. and by the way, consumers DO dictate when a console's life cycle expires... because sales slow down and people aren't as interested. if by 'we as consumers' you meant 'i as a consumer', then i understand your point. too bad one person can't make those decisions.
>"Soon they're going to be selling us "next next gen" consoles every 3 years. I can just see a damn video game clerk asking me if I want to pre-order by XBOX720 when I pick up my PS3."
not sure if your 'every 3 years' comment was overly dramatic or what, but i think the ps2 has made it at least twice that long, and i'm sure the xbox will hit their 5th complete year without losing much support.
besides, if you really hate buying them, then quit buying them.
kinda cool how people bitch about upgrades or new systems, and yet they speak about how there are 'no new features', 'nothing next-gen' about new systems.
if nothing's ever really any better, why do those people want a new system so badly?
answer: because it's always substantially better than the last. and that goes for any brand.
that is all. :P
(and may God have mercy on your soul for even bothering to read all of it.)
i look at it like this. no fanboy in it just how i see it as a consumer. i am upset at the inability to get hold of a 360. but that i expected from day one. i can get one right now and hgave it in my home in 3 days not a problem. i am a full gamer, online evrytrhing. pc and console. the pricew of the 360 is already at the end of my pricerange and thats for the premium with a couple gam,es as i got. i love the 360 and fn3 really shows the graphic power of the 360.
now i was waiting to get a ps3. i am gamer and i must have all consoles. i am gettung the revolution as my wife only plays nintendo. i see that 425 proce as a joke guys. theres no way 425 includes all the extras. most analysts expect 500 - 700. i think 600 will be fair guess at this point. thatsw full extras as i wil get. thats befor games. i don;t see all these parents or gamers spending 600+ on a system. i think most gamers will get the core version of the ps3 and that will hurt them. i am thinking bout just getting the bare minimal fiorst and buy the extras later so i can buy some games. my point is i feel that none of us will relaly see a ps3 befor 2007 and we won;t be getting 6 games when we buy the system like i did wit the ps2. so much power but where are all of us going to get all this money?
and to say the 360 is not next gen means u don;t own one or play one regualry. i have nevr had a problem with it and i love the games i got and can;t wait for the next games about to come out.
uh i doin;t know where u heard the ps3 will be twice as dfast as the 360 but thats not true. and if the specs are right from sony the ps3 will be marginally faster and gamers won;t notice till say 3-4 years as most developers have not been able to unlock all that power. so as time goes u will see games get so much better.
next if u want to compare power look at ps2 vs xbox. xbox crushed ps2, anyone who had both knows what i am saying about and the specs are avilibl;e. the xbox was way straonger but ps2 won the last gen. right now no ps3 have been made. until u buy one don;t judge and u better look at the specs befor u pay 900 for soething thats slightly faster than a system u could hjave paid half for.
This is not only a blow for the PS3 but for Blu-Ray as well. Without the PS3, Blu-Ray adoption may struggle. Witness movie studios suddenly adopting HD DVD, after saying we're only supporting Blu-Ray.
This may give HD DVD a foothold in the market.
I guess I'll ramble in my 2 cents in too...
Whether it is $425 or more, lets look at the big picture people. Sony is trying to put out two cutting (bleeding even) edge pieces of technology (in one component) for under a G. DVDs were commercially available for years before a DVD based game came out on PS2 or XB. Do you have blu-ray discs (movies, games or home-made) at home? A retail blu-ray player alone will still probably be at least $800 by the holidays, but it cannot play games like the PS3 can (or even connect to your network).
And like I said, the PS3 figures to be a true next gen system, not a PS 2.5 (sorry XB fans, I'll be fair. XB 360 is nice, but only so much HD next gen data can fit on a DVD! That's why TW2006 and other sports titles reeks compared to their XB 1 counterparts version (only 6 courses? WTF?). EA sacrificed fun for graphics, and then decided to charge you $60 for it. PS3 don't need any DVD based games. Please, oh please no. I'll buy PS2 games in that case (like God of War 2). If only 360 owners could buy XB1 games. My condolences you guys). Speaking of the software, PS3 games and movies are what you prospective PS3 owners on shoestring budgets should be worried about. Movies with an MSRP of at least $30 and games at least $60? A lot more of you may be buying their games and movies used (if not rented) for those prices.
All in all, Sony is pretty ambitious with this PS3 project (hand clapping). They are loosing a lot of money with this thing but with the buzz that's going, advertising costs shouldn't be a problem. If they deliver on the blu-ray technology and game visuals/game play that Sony games are known for (sorry XB fans), it's a wrap and we're not even considering the extras (possible user tweaks with a Linux OS. Really, is Sony trying to open the PS3 up and make it mod friendly?)
I personally hope that Sony don't go higher than $650 because I do have responsibilities (I have to feed and clothe myself and an IRA to put money in), but if Sony does deliver on their promises, Microsoft will have trouble on their hands and may end up partnering with someone (Samsung? NEC? _______?) to bring out XB ______ in 2008 (sorry XB fans; hey, I could be wrong). The value of the PS3 is really undeniable and MSFT is still holding their breath to see if Sony's PS3 will put XB 360 to sleep.
A few of the guys I know in the industry HAVE the dev kits, and have had them since December, but they said it wasn't the easiest to work with. I gotta admit, finalizing a date to launch in November isn't going to do Sony much good. Either way, I'll be calling my Gamestop to see if I can reserve one or not.
Its worth it. People complaining about the huge price, have fun buying a blu-ray/hddvd player apart.
sir waiting for launch in india
