As
expected, Apple has launched its new consumer laptops, under the
MacBook brand. The new models all share one case design, a 5.2-pound box available in black or white, with a 13.3-inch, 1280x800 display and full-size keyboard. All are based on Intel's Core Duo processor, at speeds from 1.83 GHz to 2.0 GHz. Apple claims a six-hour battery life for the new models, though we imagine that's reduced substantially if you spend that time watching DVDs. Like other recent models from Apple, the MacBook also includes an integrated iSight webcam, a remote control, gigabit Ethernet, WiFi and Bluetooth. The new models are available immediately from Apple's online store at prices from $1,099 to $1,499. If you want black, you'll have to pay more: the $1,499 model is the only one one in the color scheme; other than the case color and an 80GB drive, its specs are identical to a $1,299 white model (the 80GB drive is available as a $50 upgrade for the white version, making the price for the black case $150). And, yes, you can now bid farewell to the iBook name. Now, what on Earth is Apple going to announce at

I googled the Intel chipset, it says it runs at 400 mhz. I'm not sure what that means though.
Also according to the chart on the apple web site the black one is made of plastic.
Your complaing about an extra $200 for a black one - we have to pay $400 more for the basic one over here in UK! See they ripping us off as usual.

#10: your math is wrong, too. Upgrade from 60GB to 80 GB drive is $50, and diff between black and white machines is $200. 200-50 = 150 for the black paint.
Why would someone pay 150 for a (any) different color? And, Apple has always sold white to differentiate itself from Win-Tel. Now that they are falling in line, all the Apple-nistas are paying extra for the privilege of being assimilated? There's a sucker or a show-off (or a combination of both) born every minute, I guess....

There's a reason why the black model is more expensive besides the increased hard drive capacity...it's called supply and demand.
Apple noticed that people have been snatching up the black iPods so they're doing what any smart business would do: raise prices for the higher demanded color.
The new black 13" is a bit overpriced compared to the mid-range white one. Apart from that, it's a very interesting machine. Too bad that it doesn't have a decent video card. I actually think that WoW would run slower on this puppy than on my 1.5GHz PB...
Also, it's too bad that Apple isn't planning to offer a 13" MBP. That would have been the real interesting machine. Power and portability. Now, we have to choose between the 2.
Bought one for the Wife last week - its a very nice laptop. We have bootcamp installed and XP Pro. As far as I can tell the latest WoW patch (1.11.1) under XP SP2 or 10.4.7 performs pretty much the same. Maybe a few FPS more under XP but basically 10-15 FPS inn SW and 15-30fps outside the cities. I have the MB Pro and it is pegged at 30+FPS in SW and goes up to 90 outside the cities.
The only thing better than the new white or black MacBook is to get one of these great machines free. I like both the MacBook Pro and the MacBook. As a matter of the fact I got a 2.16GHz 15 inch MacBook Pro and my girlfriend a black MacBook both completely free throw these websites. It’s so easy and maybe it will help you out like it did for me. Because these laptops are defintely the best in the world.

Apple won't be releasing the 12" MacBook, so don't wait for it.
Misty, I don't think Apple will ever make the 12-13 MacBook Pro. They might make a 15" Black MacBook Pro, but not the other way around.
I'd reccomend against this. It seems to have above average Apple user complaints on the web. personally, mine was returned three times for random shut down syndrome and other issues relating to overheating. it's just not up to apple's typical standards.
I think the laptop is cool and the price is fine, that Why Im getting me a black Macbook. Stop whinning broke fuckers, its just $1,500.00
