Pure Digital's creepy-looking Bug Too DAB radio
We're not sure how many adults are into insect-inspired audio gear, but if you live in the UK and you're looking to get your kids hooked on the wonders of DAB radio, then the Bug Too from Pure Digital (not to be confused with the identically-named manufacturer of those disposable digital cameras) may be just the ticket. Sporting the same telescoping display, SD card slot, and of course weird design as the original Bug, this new model adds both an electronic program guide and MP3 playback capability into the mix, and wraps it all up a "stylish" titanium silver finish. You can also pause and rewind live broadcasts, set up to twenty alarms to wake you with live or recorded content (up to 15 hours on a 1GB card), and output the audio via an S/PDIF jack if those bug-eye speakers aren't doing it for you. Developed in collaboration with supposedly renowned designed Wayne Hemingway, the Bug Too is available right now for around $185.

Looks very cool. I'm surprised music people aren't in uproar that you can record straight from the radio, aren't they normally against this sort of thing with copyright laws?

Freakily, about 15mins ago I just upgraded my original Bug's firmware to v2.0 from v1.0 and it adds all the features of the Bug Too. The only difference is the colour and the lack of Too on the Bug logo and possibly the price.

Wayne Hemmingway has a relationship to design much in the same way as Dubya Bush has a relationship to intelligence.
The Bug is as credible a design as Dada's MP3 playin' bling boots. Come on Engadget we need a laugh every now and then but stick to the good stuff and let the tabloid bloggs deal with cr*p like the bug adio.

This looks like garbage - why don't manufacturers make a stylish DAB radio?
Wayne Hemingway wouldn't know style and design if they teamed up and gave him a haircut. Which he needs badly, by the way.

I have one of these radios. I've got the white one, and it does look really stylish, even though it would not appear that way in photographs. It's one of the best gadgets I've owned, actually. Being able to record to SD card and being able to pause and rewind live broadcasts is a god send.
