Explay's ultraportable projector says make room
Just about everybody's getting on the portable projector bandwagon; you've got Sony, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Epson, Viewsonic, all with sub-laptop-sized devices being prepared to throw up dimly-LED-lit images onto boardroom walls the business world over. But Explay's about to say balls to that with their new pocketable digital projector, which they claim should hit the market in the first half of 2007. It's not exactly a groundbreaking concept or anything, but ultraportable projectors are definitely about to become the hot new turf for those companies, like PVPro and Digismart, of itching to get theirs to market first.

It's great that projectors are being developed further and further. Great technology.
I can imagine that in 5-10 years, PDA/Cellphone sized devices will have decent built-in projectors. It would be just awesome to be able to play a movie from a PDA on a large projected screen!

Now that would be a rad piece of technology I'd like to own someday. I'm still waiting for prices to drop.

It will probably also make room in your wallet.

All of these innovations are great...
BUT WHERE IS MY HOVER CAR!

I love the gadgets as they get smaller. Now this one device is definitely going to help a travelling person whose got to deliver 3 - 4 presentations in different locations. Just wondering about some word on the performace, clarity and features of this device...

snapa, you took the words right out of my mouth. The very LAST thing I need is a projector I can carry around with me if I can't hover my way to where I'm going to project it!

This kind of thing would be awesome with an iPod video?

Awesome! This gets me one step closer to leaving the laptop in the hotel room/office and doing powerpoint and video presentations off of my mini pc/pmp/cell phone/GPS device. I'll bring it everywhere I go in my hovercraft.

Looks almost too good to be true? Could it be vapourware or even worse a fake???
Jake @ Jul 10th 2006 1:26PM
Yeah, but what the manufacturer never shows you is how in the hell anybody is supposed to HEAR the movie while it's playing. Seriously, has anybody set up a projector to a laptop all excited about a "theatre experience" and then realized the only speakers available for the movie are in the laptop. HA! imagine buying one for $1500 and running up to your friends to show them only to have the sound come out of your cellphone's loudspeaker! HA HA!
