Much like
Pioneer,
Samsung is
still bumming us out by
not whipping up a combo Blu-ray and HD DVD player. But good ol' Sammy is announcing its first Blu-ray player, the
BD-P1000, to be released in Europe in October 2006, with price estimates reaching €1,400. It's due to go head-to-head with Toshiba's
HD-E1 and HD-XE1, which ares due to come out the following month. Guys, can't we bury this hatchet already and just
settle this war? It's obvious that
building a hybrid player is entirely possible, and to motivate you to get on it we're officially going to sulk and go on hunger strike. Go on, try us.
tis on play.com for £999, as much as i hate sony, id rather pay the 500 for a ps3
I'd rather just pay £150 for the 360 HD-DVD drive.
As for the format war, Engadget, you have more power than you think. Run an article proclaiming Blu-ray dead, it'll blitz around the internet in no time and before long the BBC will pick it up and it'll become ligitamate. The seed will of been planted in the publics mind and the format war is over.
Simple. Go on, it's just a quick article post away!
Just stop reporting on any player/recorder that doesn't support both formats! By doing that you'd be removing their free advertising for these stuffed-up products. As for my role as a consumer it's pretty simple. I'm not buying anything until they start to play nicely again.
Ashley allen has the idea :D
Ashley, the best part is that this claim is quite legitimate, at least for Europe. The superb trojanhorse invented by Sony to force Blu-Ray in all households over the world, namely the PS3, will have a rather shaky start there since Microsoft signed an exclusive deal making all the big-league soccer games Xbox360-only.
And yes, chances are I will buy the 360 HD-DVD drive, even if I think the format is doomed too. At least I'll be able to watch Serenity in glorious HD.
Here is what will hapen in 2007 when an average person enters an HD Video shop:
-Hi. I want a HD Video player. What do you have?
-Well we have Panasonic, Tohiba, Sony, Sharp, Samsung, Lite On and many computer drive players. PS3 also can play HD Movies but i wont recomend it for a home video player.
-What is the diference?
-The Toshiba player is the chepest but not many movie studion release for it... The others are a bit more expensive although the actual movie discs are cheaper. The Panasonic model (for example) is middle priced.
-OK I will get the Panasonic (Blu-Ray) player :)
How can they ever expect anyone to buy this when it's going to cost over $1600 when it launches in Sweden?
