In addition to their
XPS gaming rig, Dell also bumped the specs on their 30-inch widescreen
3007WFP LCD today. The Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC now covers 92% of the NTSC color space for "richer, more dynamic colors" via a Wide Cold-Cathode Fluorescent Lighting (W-CCFL) backlight. It still features that same, sweet 2560x1600 (WQXGA) resolution we can't live without while shaving the response down from 14 to 8-ms. Available sometime later this year for $1,699 -- yeah, that's right around $400 more than the 3007WFP.
If you're talking about detaching the screen from the base, it is. I have the 3007WFP hanging off my wall right now.
I agree. Having an unattractive logo staring at you the whole time is a big downside to this one. It is fine to have a log, but PLEASE make it unobtrusive.
I'll take four. Am I the only one who thinks the "new" base is bush-league?
meh... to pricey for specs.
I'd love to know what you think is a better deal, especially once you factor in the inevitable Dell coupons.
with the recent price dropss bringing the vanilaaa 3007 ever closer to $1000, i was contemplating buying it but really stuck on not having any additional inputs like the 2407 has (svid, composite etc). i was hoping dell would put out a 30 with inputs but this is all we get, more colors and a response time that almost no regular human pc user will recognize with their bare eyes - at a whopping $400 more at retail. sad, dell, plain sad. put out the 3007 with more inputs and i guarantee it will sell better then this color-fied upgrade, even if it was the same $400 more.
Ed the kind of ppl who buy such monitors care more abt color(graphics pros) and response times(gamers with deep pockets) than they do abt inputs, DVI and now HDMI are fairly defacto when it comes to such usage so i doubt adding extra input options and then jacking up the price is gonna increase sales.. cheers.
I have nothing to add so i'll just isolate the first part of the headline.
Dell enhances 30-incher
As if the Dell logo is that intrusive anyway, just black it out with a sharpie if you care so much.
I forgot my 2405 even had such branding until you brought it up. In comparison it is much smaller on the 2405 than it is on my old 2001fp.
Someone say "Bush?"
People like Jarod, above, realllly bug. You admit it's a great screen, yet you have a problem with the name on the front. Are you always so shallow?
Way too much for way too little in specs... maybe when this one drops below $1,000 i might buy a couple to replace my dual 24's
and the dell thing its annoying just paint it over it helps :->
i just purchase the 24 incher from dell and fell in love. i told myself recently "Self; i think i will buy the 30 incher next month" and now look. they have a richer color version.
As others have noted, they need to increase the number of inputs. 2*DVI, 1*component (for som xbox gaming) and a low-end s-video/coxial for older equipment would be sweet.
No additional inputs? That I would pay extra for.
Why are you all assume that it has only one dvi input.I've been searching for that information and it hasn't been released yet.
3 DUAL LINK!!!
What i also now is that the HP LP3065 30" with 92% NTSC color gamut !!,24-bit color, Contrast 1000:1, Brightness 300 cd/m2, Response time 6msec ( gray to gray), 12 msec rise and fall and 3 DUAL LINK DVI-D inputs! for US$1650.
Hopefully it will be available soon,
I was also in a dell customer service loop trying to find information about the new 3007WFP-HC monitor. Representatives tried to sell me the older model, because they have not been trained on the new model. Below is the link to the user manual.
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/3007WFP/en/ug/index.htm
The link above looks a little fishy because there is not a "-HC" in the link. Here is the manual for the 3007WFP
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/3007WFP/EN/index.htm
I checked the refresh rates in the two manuals and they are different.
Unfortunately, no new inputs and no OSD color calibration menu.
Major Differences
======================
Less brightness
old: 400 CD/m ²(typ)
new: 300 CD/m ²(typ)
Better contrast ratio
Old: 700 to 1 (typ)
New: 1,000 to 1 (typ)
Color Gamut
Old: Unknown color gamut
New: 92% wide color gamut
The old monitor had a 72% color gamut, and the new one has a 92% color gamut.
I went out and bought the Gateway XHD3000 instead. Inputs a plenty and pretty good image. I replaced my Sony GDM-FW900 with this LCD. So far, okay. There really isn't a display out there that offers both DVI and VGA inputs as well as HDMI, Component, Composite, built-in and nice sounding speaker bar, and a real and universal remote. So far my only complaints are that some games (like Crysis and NFS Pro Street) don't work well with it. As a matter of fact, Crysis can only run in window mode since if I try to run full screen it just shows way out of center (to the right) and the screen looks like, how do I explain? Let's see, remember how VHS movies used to look when you turned the TV channel to like 2 or 4 while playing the movie? It's how those two games look. Now, Half Life 2 series games look unbelievably good at 2560x1600 as well as MS Flight Sim X. Surfing web is also good and there's so much room.
I'm going out today to pick up an HD Cable box to use with this. I expect the HDTV channels to look as good if not better than on my 1080P 42" TV.
Oh, my other complaint was that booting up on either Windows or OS X (I'm using this LCD on a MacPro) is kind of weird as the screen again seems to be out of sync and unstable while booting. It worries me that I'll have to keep a cheapo 15" LCD as a spare just in case I ever need to work outside of OS X (like in command line mode).
One other thing you might notice, should you end up buying this XHD3000 display and own a Mac, it won't allow you to adjust anything other than Brightness. I was just getting ready to pack it up and bring back to Best Buy until I found that OS X (Leopard at least) has a nice color sync callibration program in the Display Preferences. I was able to easily callibrate it to a really nice looking display. This problem does not exist in Vista or XP as I was able to use the monitor controls while using my IBM T43 (connected via VGA @ 1920x1200) and my Boot Camp Vista Ultimate.
Again, I'd love to seriously consider buying the new Dell 30" as Dell has been at this game longer than Gateway but the Dell model only has one DVI input. I need at least two DVI inputs or at least one DVI input and a VGA input. So, in the end one would end up paying almost the same as the XHD3000 ($100.00 less I guess) but then how much would you have to spend to get it to work on at least two computers as well as be able to view TV on it (HD signal) as well as plug your VCR and DVD player to it. Also, really, that remote that came with the Gateway is pretty convenient. I'm not Trolling Dell. I'm just throwing this out as a recent owner of a pretty good competitor to this new Dell model. As a matter of fact, I'm not 100% convinced that I'll be keeping the Gateway until I can figure out how to play Crysis and NFS on it.
