Although we Americans tend to scoff at anything labeled
3D,
stereoscopic, or
wearable display, apparently the Aussies (or somebody) think these things are pretty inspiring. Expanding its (astoundingly)
growing list of
head mounted displays,
22Moo is offering two more (likely rebadged) units to literally gander at, and is going all out with its marketing ploys to connect these gaudy headpieces to some of the trendiest products out. The lightweight i-Vision 230 comes in white (
surprised?), red, and silver color schemes, features a "virtual display" of 35-inches from 2-meters away, rocks a 320 x 240 resolution LCD, and plays nice with your "video
iPod,
Zune,
Wii, and
Xbox 360" (not to mention basically any other vanilla video source). The beefed-up Argo+PC adds "
PlayStation 3 and set-top box" compatibility, features twin 640 x 480 resolution LCDs, a detachable light shield, stereo headphones, and generates a virtual image of 43-inches. Additionally, this set can reproduce "3D stereoscopic images" if used with a "compatible video card." Both eyewear devices are currently available for those interested, and while the i-Vision 230 will run you $250, the presumably
Star Trek-approved Argo+PC (pictured after the break) will demand $350.
Anyone who wears a pair of these things in public should be repeatedly beaten with a bag of oranges.
Sure, it plays nice with the Zune ... but does it come in brown?
ROFLMAO!!@@! Funny!! Whoever wheres those in public deserves some major "geek points" :P
"... but does it come in brown?"
Bahhhhhh Ahahahah!!!!!
hey, we're in the hd age now, where's 720p? And semi transparency would be nice also, so i could surf the web while listening AND WATCHING what my Profs gotta teach me.
VGA/MCGA resolution makes it no good for modern computers :(
I don't think you would have to worry about people walking around in public because they would just take care of themselves once they wandered into traffic. This wouldn't be a bad idea though for long trips on trains or planes, and the only reason you think it looks strange is because you don't have one and your afraid of change ;p
One word: iGlasses.
Wake me when they get to 720p in 3D under $350
iGlasses - perfect - These guys may be sitting on a URL goldmine: http://www.iglasses.com/
This is gonna make my morning commute so much more fun!
Can't see sh*t captain!
Not good for paranoid people like me
not a bag of apples? lollz
hehe...
Eyephones ala William Gibson

I was thinking more LeVar Burton...

..."can reproduce '3D stereoscopic images' if used with a 'compatible video card.'"
Ok, so it looks more comfortable than Nintendo's Virtual Boy, and less likely to screw up your neck, but does it still give you a massive headache, and make it impossible to see in the real world when you take them off?
Other than that, with a good surround sound headphone processor, this would be perfect to get yourself really immersed in your gaming world of choice, at least for a Pre-HD console game. Ben H, something to ponder for say a N64p MKII, or PPS2-2?
I actually got my hands on one of these last week, and reviewed it at http://www.zunerama.com/zune-accessory-review-22moo-zunevg.php
If you're not sure you want to buy one, try getting it free! On New Year's Eve we're drawing for one - entry is at http://zunerama.com/forum/index.php?topic=1197.0

If these only had that "Fram air filter" look, they'd have gotten the Geordi thing down to a bonafide marketing feature. I'm too lazy to look it up but I liked that last pair posted here (even though they had those flip out projectors) a lot more. I think transparency is key in this technology so that you can actually see your surroundings when you wear them.
I'm waiting for the HD retina implants because looking good is more important than feeling good and seeing is more than believing (and not walking into the next speeding bus).
When I was eight or nine, I remember going almost literally green with envy for the people with the TV eyeglasses
this wasn't science fiction
it was one of those little mail-order gadget books
it sounds not too dissimilar to this, except it WAS transparent, so, according to the blurb, you could watch TV while emptying the fridge or sweeping the floor
and bear in mind that this was a good ten years ago
what have we gained in those ten years?
So it's compatible with Wii?
Where exactly does the sensor bar go?
IMHO this is the closest (and cheapest) way to get "immersive" in home VR. Imagine encasing a room with IR diodes, holding your Wiimote in front of you, donning a pair of these glasses and playing Call of Duty 3?
I would love it. As you turn around, your character would respond. Man I NEED a pair of these! (And a TON of IR Diodes!)
