Fujitsu launches its LifeBook P7230 ultraportable in Taiwan
We were a tad bit curious as to exactly what this LifeBook P7230 was packing when we spotted it late last year, and now that Fujitsu is busting this thing out in Taiwan, it doesn't look like we'll be too terribly disappointed. The unit sports a 1280 x 768 10.6-inch LCD, 1.2GHz ULV Core Solo U1400 processor, the Intel 945GMS Express Chipset and PRO 3945ABG WiFi, DVD super-multi burner, 1GB of RAM, an 80GB HDD, Bluetooth 2.0 and VGA webcam. Other perks include gigabit Ethernet and a PCMCIA slot, but the real excitement is the 6 hours of battery life, 1.2-inch thickness and 2.6 pound weight -- not bad at all for a laptop packing an optical drive. If you happen to be kicking it in Taiwan, you can pick one of these up for $66,800 TWD, about $2,024 US, but hopefully Fujitsu will be keeping the Q2010 "world's most desirable laptop" company Stateside before too terribly long.

Wait. You mean that windows laptops dont all have slot-loading drives?
You mean the companies are that cheap that they wont spent the extra $5 to get a cd drive that wont break in two weeks because the tray snaps off?

I've been using the P7010 (the P7230's older sibling) for about a year and a half now and have no complaints about performance. This form factor is ideal for travel; not too small to be practical while not being too bulky to work or watch a movie on the plane.
Aside from the features mentioned above, I wouldn't be surprised if the P7230 has optical audio out like the P7010 does. I really can't wait for this unit to come stateside.

@John Doe:
No, quite a few laptops in the smaller form factors don't have optical drives, especially not the ultraportables like Fujitsu's P1610. It's not a question of being cheap, it's more a matter of there being room to put one in without sacrificing performance in other areas (like battery life).

I too have the P7010, using it as wee speak. It's a tremendous peice of technology, I usually get about 5 hours out of it at Uni and everyone comments about how sleek and light it is. And after nearly 2 years the optical drive is faultless, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another Fujitsu Machine. Although I am tempted by OSX86 ;-) on a 10" screen, that would be sweet!

a) stop trolling
b) how do you manually eject if there's a jam? no emergency hole. Thanks Ives.
c) have you used a lifebook? they're some of the best laptops you can get.
If you haven't used a Lifebook, you really have no business criticizing them.

The SONY VAIOs have better specs than this...and extended battery life at around 8 hours...
aws910 @ Jan 25th 2007 11:34AM
The Sony battery will explode, but hopefully it won't damage the rootkit they install.
Also, I wouldn't talk too big about the Q2010. I bought one the other day and it only got one hour on the standard battery. Afterwards, I found that all reviews on the unit used the extended battery... what a joke. If I wanted a thick and heavy computer I would have gotten a desktop replacement! Returned it.
Maybe I should just replace the burned-out mobo on my P7010D...

I love Fujitsu laptops, but their AC adapters always seem to deteriorate. Has anyone else had this problem?
Slaven @ Jan 26th 2007 12:08AM
No problems with AC adapter here. I'm using Lifebook P7120.
Btw, I've looked at VAIOs very carefully before buying my Fujitsu and it's definitely a better deal: the build is better than VAIO but most importantly P7120 has NO FANS! That alone was enough to seal the deal.

I too have a P2010 and just love it. The best computer I have ever owned. Just the right size, very sturdy. It's beel all around the world with me for work and never missed a beat. I looked at the new Sony Vaios but can't stand their keyboards, which feel like keys on a cheap calculator. I will be upgrading to the P7230 when it comes to UK.

Sorry, I meant P7010 in my last email, not P2010.
