Oh c'mon
Mike, why you gotta ruin all our fun? Dell issued a killjoy statement today, warning that "Dell is constantly evaluating new technologies. However, we have no plans to
launch a Gaming handheld at this time." It doesn't really do anything to contradict the word from Abizar Vakharia that such a handheld was "on the radar screen," but it definitely does put a damper on hopes that such a device will be hitting the market anytime soon. Then again, "no plans to launch" could very well mean they just haven't set a date, so we're going to continue to stick our fingers in our ears, sing the national anthem, and dream of a Dell-branded, CE-based, PSP killer to shake up the oh-so-boring handheld market.
Oh so boring handheld industry? Like Dell would make it better? I rack up more hours with my PSP and my DS than I do with PS3 and 360 combined.
Boring? PSP is great. Movies, games, music. I love it. It's makes my commute on public transportation fly by.
Isn't it a possibility that that is JUST a Dell Axim with a screenshot on the display? Or am I just crazy?
In either case, if Dell were to do such a thing, they would (in my opinion) most likely fail (Dell DJ anybody? Or how about Gizmondo?)
I am perfectly fine with my PSP (on which I am listening to music on AS I SPEAK) and my DS.
I was just gonna post something, but then I saw Alex already said it. Wow, a gaming PDA! Far more exciting than a dual-screened touch-screen system or a wide-screen system with an analog stick!
And I should know, I own a DS, I've spent plenty of time on PSPs, and I play games on my Treo. The Doom games run nice on it but it's no DS (or even GBA) replacement.
Dell already made the Axim with the v at the end.. im too lazy to look it up again, but I had one for a week then returned it because it was SOOOO slow in Windows Mobile. I ended up getting an hx4700 (4" VGA screen)and I still love it to death.
Funny, I would have thought that "no plans to launch" means that they have no plans to launch such a product. Weird, how an Engadget writer can twist that into meaning that it's quite possible that they're working on it already but just haven't set a release date.
If I state that I have no plans to go to Hawaii, I guess Engadget is going to speculate that I just haven't bought the tickets yet, but that I'm actively researching travel pages and that it's quite possible that I'll end up in Hawaii in the next six months?
i hope it has a higher res screen than the psp and two analog sticks or i will blow down the dell factory with my acidmod.com inspired psp fan. hahahhahahah
