Meizu M8 / miniOne closer to production, litigation
Last we saw Meizu's curiously familiar M8 handheld device, it was looking like it still had a long ways to go before we'd actually see one out in the wild. As these latest tantalizing shots show, however, the device seems to be rapidly winding its way into reality whether Apple likes it or not, also picking up a new name in the process: the miniOne. Although if that one sticks, Meizu could well be facing problems of originality on multiple fronts, as the admittedly-catchy name is already in use by another company and presumably trademarked. C'mon Meizu, we know you're fans of Apple, but this is taking the imitation a little too far. Unfortunately, there's no further word on specs for the device, though you can get a couple more good looks at it after the break.[Via Meizu Me]

It really doesn't matter about the hand model, lighting, or anything else that is not related to the phone. It certainly has trumped the iPhone with its size and screen. The miniOne looks amazing, before this, I salivated over the thought of having an iPod phone. Then it dawned on me the iPhone is the same exact size as an iPod60,it should have more space than 8gigs. So those thoughts cooled really fast, along comes something I really hopes makes it to the Americas.
every now and then , technology changes.
scientists innovates, manufacturers imitates.
me and my husband, we updates!

competition is good for the consumer. let apple do their thing and meizu do their thing. nothing in this world is original anymore and that is a fact.
OK, I'm not going to read 5 pages of crap to see if someone already said this, but, before saying someone is ripping Apple off, let's take note that Apple is ripping LG off:
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/01/11/iphone-and-lg-ke850-separated-at-birth/
They're in a lawsuit now. Considering the fact that LG won an award for the design a year before iPhone was announced, guess who's going to win...
And on this line: "as the admittedly-catchy name is already in use by another company and presumably trademarked" Check the link between Cisco and iPhone, a name that they have owned since 2000.... A little fanboyish are we Engaget?
It's actually there are some pictures of the "debut" product. After the iPhone was published, they mod the raw desigh.
You can find the junior pictures at the following address:

But,MEIZU denied the pictures is the real M8 when chinese journalists asked them, those you saw are just toys.

OK, Iphone will be available on one provider. Will have no third party software available. Doesn't have a camera. Has a smaller screen. Has Apple propriatary connection and management. Costs a butload more then it should.
I can go on and on...
This phone has USB connectivity, WM6, all of the above listed not available on the iPhone. You can get an extra battery the iPhone has no way to swap batteries.
Me personally, I don't care if they copied it exactly and made it better.
I say THANK YOU!!!! Meizu, GREAT GOING!!!!! I am so happy a manufaturer listens to what people actually want and makes it!!!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!
Fin.
Anyone know when this is coming out?
As soon as this Meizu MiniOne is available, i'm definitely bying one because it's running WindowsME. Just imagine the amount of software already available for that system!
Obligatory IP-related comment:
All these [insert class of product here] look the same because they have the same purpose, and it doesn't take long to find a good way to implement something. For instance, GUI Operating Systems all have a place you can click to open a menu (and it's typically on the left side, at either the top or bottom edge of the screen), they all have pretty colors, they all have desktop icons... BECAUSE IT WORKS. Why reinvent the wheel, if you can buy tires at Walmart(tm)?
Also... this phone uses a different OS, a different network, and has different structures for implementing additional software... as in, ADDING SOFTWARE IS POSSIBLE. I give it no more than 30 days from release (and that's giving an EXTREMELY slow response time) before someone has hacked linux onto this thing and is running a webserver from their pocket.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but this just happens to LOOK like an iPhone(tm).
Piracy is a wonderful tool for breaking price-fixing. Google "Vista China" for more details.
Beautiful phone, where can i get one.
The MiniOne will have a 533Mhz Samsung processor, 128MB of DDR SDRAM, TFT touchscreen, 720x480 resolution, 3-megapixel back camera, 0.3-megapixel front camera, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, DMB TV Tuner, GPS, video output, AVI/MPEG4/WMV support, and a 4GB to 16GB size.
The best part? It's only going to be about $260 for the 4GB version and $450 for the 16GB version."
ah well, you win some you lose some
now personally i think that the meizu m8 minione is nothing more than a windows mobile in an iphone shell but to be real lets not forget that apple doesnt have a bone of originality in them. their multi-touch technology for their browser...was originally developed by microsoft for the windows mobile platform an initiative dubbed deepfish, and seadragon see: http://youtube.com/watch?v=_DnqSYMJisU&feature=related
the nokia n810, and PIEPlus 2.0 for pocket internet explorer all uses the same mobile internet technology. the initiative (in the same way, windows longhorn developed in vista) inspired microsoft to develop microsoft surfaces.
other interfaces; and lets refrain from giving the hacks over at mac more credit that they are worth like their "new" landscape view is nothing new at all. windows mobile pocket pc's have been doing this for years...see htc wizards like the cingular 8125, 8525, E-TEN glofiish M800 etc. so they elimanted the keyboard and yes the whole positioning of the phone to switch the screen is impressive but it has been done before maybe not on a phone but im sure it has been done on other devices...tablet pc's for example...
blessed is the day when some hacker whips the iphones OS clean and install a windows mobile platform then maybe we all wouldnt be so strung up on the meizu m8 minione however since no one has had that much time to spare and j wong has elected to simply build hardware with the nice (i'll give them that much) physical interfaces of the iphone with the infinite possibilities a windows OS gives you then so be it. now the guys over by negri electronics: http://www.negrielectronics.com/meizu-m-66.html are already taking orders and you can bet the barn i already have an order in. i suggest you follow suit and get one.
P.S. a little originality on the media player would have been nice but hey...i dnt mind it at all...
