We got some more info today from a friendly tipster about Sony's upcoming and
not-so-secretive summer laptop lineup. The FZ info we had for the most part, but it's nice to get a bit of confirmation that Sony is actually going with 2GB of RAM and Santa Rosa across the board for the Vista laptops, along with Blu-ray in the FZ11Z. The other goodness we've got here are the first pics of the 11.1-inch TZ series (shown above), some downright sexy ultraportables that are replacing the comparatively frumpy TX laptops. Sony is touting up to 9 hours of battery life, with 1GB of RAM and a 80GB hard drive in the TZ11MN/M, and 2GB / 100GB in the TZ11XN/B. Both laptops feature integrated cameras and microphones, just like the FZ series, and are running Vista Business on Core 2 Duo U7500 processors. Still no word on price, but the info we have has these hitting at least the UK in July.

The TX-11 looks gorgeous (odd, that it's so close from the Sony G1 types) ... ! Too bad there's no trackpoint ...

Sweet, I for one welcome back the built-in camera on the new TZ!
outoffocuz @ May 1st 2007 10:54AM
Hey...wait a minute here. Just wireless a/b/g? I thought the Santa Rosa chipset was all about integrating 802.11 n with the Merom processors. Why no n WiFi here?
sLm4ever @ May 1st 2007 1:14PM
that's what I was asking about for the last couple of days !! ... for me it's the most important thing about the new platform ..
Paul @ May 1st 2007 11:06AM
That is a standard product guide. I had one sent two weeks ago to my store (Sony Centre).
Brian @ May 1st 2007 11:11AM
Paul, any news on a sony tablet?
Paul @ May 1st 2007 11:16AM
Currently not at work and only have had a brief look, but I didn't see any tablets...as I would have remembered that! I can check properly tomorrow for you...and scan some of the pages in if there is anything interesting in there!

Sexy sexy!
al @ May 1st 2007 11:28AM
Does this mean that Apple will be able to include Santa Rosa into their MB/MBP too?
Kev50027 @ May 1st 2007 1:51PM
Are you freaking kidding me? The TX series are pretty!
The SZ series I must say are the best looking current model they sell though, in black the SZ is damn sexy.
Sam @ May 1st 2007 2:16PM
Any SZ pictures? SZ pictures please! SZ by far are the most beautiful and sexiest of all of Sony's notebooks...I was about to purchase one then heard exactly of Sony's update with the Santa Rosa chip....Thank you SONY!
Tommy @ May 1st 2007 3:36PM
Wow...i've always love Sony's laptop. Thinking of changing my current laptop to Sony's.
Mr. B @ May 1st 2007 3:58PM
Very nice... I like the styling. Unless Apple introcuces a 12 inch Macbook Pro, I think I know what my next laptop is gonna be.
kyle @ May 1st 2007 4:18PM
very nice - but where's the solid state drives?
ralfha @ May 2nd 2007 12:20AM
I agree the TX series is frumpy and this could be an improvement. I hope Sony's notebook design in general is veering back from some of the me-too square boxes they've released (TX, S, etc) to the more stylish machines with inspired rounded shapes they've designed at several points in the past (TR, A, FE, FS, etc.)

Has anyone got information on the VGNAR41E which I am told will be in the shops in the next two weeks? I have seen sites that are already selling without detail at £999?

SONY, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING???
The "Stupid Business Decision of the Week" goes to SONY! I just purchased a new super-duper laptop, the SONY SZ480 which came with a "ATT/CINGULAR 2 MONTH TRIAL".
While traveling, the wireless did not work. After spending about 2 hours on the phone with tech support, the wireless works, but was running slow and then dropping. I called back (another hour), to download drivers, and all sorts of fixes. It was working again, but still really slow. I asked the tech support guy, Dave, who finally admitted that the Cingular Network was just a little faster than dial-up.
So, here's the deal. You buy a terrific computer with a built in wireless card that hooks up to the slowest network out there! What were they thinking. Cingular should be ashamed to be offering such a bad product, and SONY made a terrible decision to offer this instead of Verizon or SPRINT. So for an extra few bucks you might get from Cingular, you cost yourself 4 hours of tech support, a dissatisfied customer, and earned the "Stupid Business Decision of the Week Award"!
QUESTION: What city was I in? ANSWER: LA, NY, Seattle, and Chicago.
Wireless broadband access anywhere, anytime for your laptop using a PCMCIA card.
