Just a note to say that i like Microsoft products. I do some programming, and their Visual Studio is really easy to use, and am no expert programmer. I have an XBOX, and i am on my third XBOX360 - Microsoft paid for all collections and deliveries and repair costs.
Most large scale products and services are initially a loss leader type of strategy - mobile phones in the UK were loss leaders for a long time - the companies were relying on the monthly contract standing charge to recoup their investment of the infrastructure and mobile phone costs. I see why microsoft is no different, and i am not surprised by their console be a loss in the short term.
