HP Compaq 2710p tablet PC coming in July?
HP Compaq's tablet range is the latest to get a new machine, this time in the form of the 2710p tablet PC which is apparently the replacement for the tc4400. Specs are very sparse for this particular model -- apparently all the source could dig up was that it'd come with 802.11n wireless and, wait for it, an optional webcam configuration. Other than that, this aluminum metal (at least, the render looks like real metal) tablet is due to hit sometime around July this year. So, what's next from the sieve that is HP's laptop department?

Ohhh... that is a nice looking machine!
I second that. Im interested in a new tablet but want to see what fujitsu come up with first.
S-E-X-Y!!!
An official page on the 2710P can be found here (http://h41131.www4.hp.com/ie/en/feat...e85bf 58a8c59) but unfortunately it doesn't give any further info. Interestingly, it can be clearly seen that it has a trackstick instead of a touchpad
A quick search also yielded this PDF (http://club.hp.ua/materials/pdfs/PSG...PRING_2.0.pdf), which lists its weight at an extremely light 1.65kg, and battery life (I'm sure this must a typo) 16 hours? PDF also hints that apparently it won't have an optical drive, or WWAN.
Sounds like a low-specced model with power efficiency in mind.

Seems there is a lot going on with tablet pcs with last week's announcement of a new entry from Gateway, now HP. Still a few more OEMs left to chime in but looking good for those of us with tablet pcs already to upgrade or newbies (and fence riders) to find a comfortable model and price point to jump in.
With up to four ways to interact with your computer (touch, keyboard, voice and your own handwriting), it's hard to go back.
HP has really been stepping up in design

Uh, this is just the Compaq version of the HP TX1000Z which has been out a few weeks. Notable cool features are the ability to get a swivel/reversible screen that is NOT a touch screen (touch is an option). Also as this is in the home/home office category, it will probably not be a replacement for the TC4400, which is a business-class computer.
I hope you weren't complaining about the "TrackStick". Sure, they sucked initially, but the new ones are the best pointing devices ever invented for laptops. With a bit of patience and practice, even a half-wit will discover how it is much more pleasing and easier to use than the d@mn slidethefinger-gobackup-slidethefingeragain nonsense that is the trackpad. Sure, it may be easier to use initially, but the trackpad sucks in terms of pointing accuracy, compared to a trackstick. It is because of impatient, luddite bozos that most laptop companies discontinued shipping a "trackstick" with their wares.
Nice ripoff of the PSP/PS3 background, there, HP.
No Santa Rosa on this tablet? WTF, where are the Santa Rosa tablets!
