While
Acer did make a quick stop to confirm that this
Gemstone brouhaha was indeed becoming a reality, the firm has apparently gotten around to fleshing out the rest of its healthy
Santa Rosa lineup. On the consumer side of things, the the Aspire 5720 touts a 15.4-inch CrystalBrite display, integrated CrystalEye webcam, Dolby Digital Live audio, and a choice of ATI graphics cards. The 7720 steps it up by packing more powerful Core 2 Duo processors, a 17-inch widescreen display, an
ATI graphics card with up to 512MB of RAM, webcam, and an optional DVB-T tuner, while the 9920 takes things to the extreme with a 20-inch screen, NVIDIA's DX10-capable
GeForce 8600M-GT, and an HD DVD drive to boot. Meanwhile, the TravelMates are also seeing updates, as the 6592 packs a Core 2 Duo CPU, 802.11a/b/g/n, dual-layer DVD burner or HD DVD drive, ATI's Mobility Radeon X2300-HD graphics, and a 15- or 15.4-inch display. The 6492 loses an inch of screen space, steps down to integrated X3100 graphics, but sports up to 8.5-hours of battery life with a secondary cell installed in the media bay, and the 6292 wraps things up with a 12.1-inch display, WiFi, ezDock II compatibility, and a lightweight design. No word just yet on pricing or availability, but at least you've got a smattering of choices on the Acer horizon to decide upon.

Do my eyes deceive me or does that have DVI? I think I'm having a stroke. :oP
On a side note, it would be really helpful if Engadget could start to tag their images with product model references so that we can see which of the discussed units is actually pictured.
I just want to be able to hover over that laptop and find out which one it is. Seems I can bury into the image properties and find out in this instance, but why not make it more transparent guys?

interesting to note that apparently they managed to fit a numpad area under a 17" screen...
i thought you needed a 20" at least for that.

Just when I was hoping that this would be my new dx10 gaming laptop, I see that the audio in/outs are on the front! I guess it's going to have to be an asus G1s or G2s.

Availability - how about "now"?
I just saw a new santa rosa TM 4xxx here in the mall in south east asia for around USD 900. 1GB RAM, crystal eye, TM7100 processor. The design is much improved over the previous lineup, all matte black. I hope they improved the sometimes spotty quality too...

ps: this one came with 14" wide screen and integrated intel graphics, and the audio outputs are indeed - and inexplicably - in the front where the wires will interfere with typing. what's up with that? I have an Acer right now with audio in front and I have to say that's one stupid design decision. cables are guaranteed to be in the way.

when will they release a santa rosa 14.1 tablet?
