We don't typically cover financial statements here at
Engadget, but when a company like Sony suffers a year of missteps highlighted by a
massive battery recall and
PS3 launch delays, well, we can't help but take a peek at that gnarled wreckage across the center divide. In the quarter ending March 31st, Sony suffered a ¥67.6 billion ($563 million) loss attributed primarily to the launch of the PS3 -- their worst quarter in four years. The matter was compounded by the fact that they
reduced the price of the uber spec'd console and then sold only 5.5 of the
6 million PS3s they had targeted for the entire fiscal year. Still, Sony's once highly profitably games division is expected to make a recovery -- at least in part -- after they "strengthen" their game lineup this summer in their quest to sell 11 million PS3s before March of 2008. Godspeed Sony, you'll
need it.
-Its true PS3 needs to step it up, they need exclusive games and they need quality graphics in games quickly
Splinter cell ps3 and 360 look similar
oblivion on ps3 looks a tad better
fear looks like crap on ps3
I presume vegas will be about the same trend
The ps3 exclusives better rock the house
Ninja Gaiden Sigma Is a stupid project to begin with but the demo does deliver graphically it is almost up to par with Gears
However Heavenly sword and Lair MUST be sucessfull in order for PS3 sales to improve anytime before christmas
by this time last year there was at least 5 or 6 really good titles on the 360
I made almost 3000 selling ps3s at launch
I am definately rooting for sony to win this thing
but fact is their games are not delivering and the people need some noticeable diff in graphics to boast about right now the only thing i use my ps3 for is Blu ray
and the other hand
I hate you engadget
Why do u bash on sony so much?
engadget is the biggest sony hating mac loving site of them all
you're gonna start loosing readers unless u change you're tone and hold youre bias
How come I see no reports on how Blu Ray is kicking the hell out of HDDVD with the exception of a close call last month
hmm???
i am not a biased person its just i have always enjoyed what sony has put out on the market all the way back to the original playstation i still have mine that i bought at launch and still playing final fantasy 7 8 and 9 on the system so that has to tell you something i was never interested in what nintendo had to offer i remember the legend of zelda ocarina of time thats the best they got and as of today the havent made a game that is better than it as of microsoft ive never played the xbox or the 360 and im never going to they have nothing that is worth paying 300 to 400 dollars for a machine that doesnt even play dvds unless you pay 200 more dollars on a dvd drive sony knows what the consumer wants and they deliver yeah they have problems some time but the work them out and get it right so enough with the price range of the ps3 if you calculate the 360 up your going to spend over 700 dollars on a machine to play dvds so ps3 is the king in my book
Don't now what you're talking about but the 360 plays DVD's and upscales them as well (VGA out). Something the PS3 can't do. If you want to play HD DVD THEN you have to spend $200.
I am sure he meant hd-dvds, and even with the HD-DVD drive you don't get hdmi. On top of that who is stupid enought to buy a new elite 480 and add an hd-dvd drive 200 (total 680) for something the ps3 has for 600. Not to mention the 360 has can only game on DVD, not much room for the future. PS3 is overpriced but more futureproof. In time it will be #1 again.
