XM says sorry, offers customers credit for two days of service
XM looks be trying to make things right with its customers after an outage put a crimp in its service earlier this week, although the company isn't exactly going all out to make sure they stay on board. As compensation for any withdrawal symptoms customers may have suffered (those that haven't already jumped ship, that is), XM has deemed it suitable to dole out credits for two whole days of service (yes, days) which, at the current rate of $12.95 a month, works out to about 87 cents. Of course, you'll have to do a bit of work to pocket all that change, with a call to XM customer service at 1-800-967-2346 required to pry it from the company's coffers.[Via Orbitcast]

Wow, XM is probably one of the most generous companies ever. This is great PR for them. I may pick up some stock.
Rob @ May 23rd 2007 3:26PM
It's almost as if recently, XM has come up with the best things they could do from a PR standpoint, and then done the complete opposite. Astounding.
LJKelley @ May 23rd 2007 3:33PM
Oh, Yeah. 87 cents... I'm so happy. It would one thing to automatically credit it to everyone but to make them call for 87 cents...
They know most people won't bother to hold an hour and a half for 87 cents... I know I wouldn't because I get paid a bunch more than 87 cents per hour.

"XM looks be trying to make things right with its customers after an outage put a crimp in its service earlier this week"
Somehow I read that as "make things right with its customers after an *outrage*..."
which probably would have been more appropriate given XM's last couple of weeks.

87 cents! But that won't even cover the gas that I used to go to the store to buy the twine to tie up the bags!

SKINNER!
Iscariote @ May 23rd 2007 3:44PM
They couldn't credit me $0.87 automatically? Thanks XM!
free_sw_for_all @ May 23rd 2007 3:56PM
I am so jumping ship from XM to Pandora/Slacker this year. Thank god I didnt get that radio hardwired into my car.
John @ May 23rd 2007 3:57PM
When they don't want you to listen to O&A, they'll go to incredible lengths!
Scott @ May 23rd 2007 4:16PM
Just seeing that even one person gets it makes it all worth it.
Gregg @ May 23rd 2007 4:21PM
Looks like I'm getting credited $1.00 per day, for a whopping total of $2.00. Hey, beggars can't be choosers, right?
GO XM! DIE, SIRIUS!
obiwan @ May 23rd 2007 4:34PM
Wow, even less of an incentive to go XM. Why do people even have satellite radio? I've ridden in cars that had it, and was BORED in less than one hour. Fill up my 30GB iPod with music, podcasts, and I'm good to go for D-A-Y-S with nothing repeated. Satellite radio is not impressive, sorry. Sorry to hear you lost it for two days.
The Aggie CEO™ @ May 23rd 2007 6:19PM
I agree..........I dont see the point in PAYING for RADIO.......
I've got my Zune wired into my Receiver and I can watch movies and listen to music for FREE.......thanx..........
Jocelyn @ May 23rd 2007 5:29PM
With a pending merger with sirius, there's little to no incentive to actively hold onto customers.
Firley @ May 23rd 2007 6:36PM
What a bunch of whiners you are. Service was down for little more than a day. Not even completely down - just degraded. They're giving you TWO days free. WTF does everyone want? A month? Two? Everyone wants something for nothing I guess.
Yes - I'm a subscriber. I put in a CD that day, and I'm proud to say I lived to tell the tale.
Ethan @ May 23rd 2007 7:43PM
Firley:
You are paying for a service. They didn't deliver the service. They should automatically apply the credit not force people to call in and request it, knowing most people won't bother.
Everyone wants something for nothing? Yeah, XM.
Nathaniel @ May 24th 2007 11:26AM
If they service was out for a day, give them a day's worth of service. That way they get what they paid for. XM is giving twice that, I think that's fair, they're giving customers back twice what they paid for that day of service. It is kind of crappy that people have to call in to get the credit. They should just apply it to everyone's account, but still, what these people want is indeed free service or something. Oh boo-hoo, your XM satellite radio didn't work for half a day and now XM should just fall on its knees and give you everything your heart desires because clearly the world owes you something for being so awesome. Cry me a river.

OMFG!!!!!!!!! There is one major point everyone is missing here. I've had xm since it came out. This is the first time they have any downtime ever! Not too shabby IMHO. Also, I am a rabid pest but am still backing the company over this b/c it simply isn't justifed to complain this much.
