Speed Racer's Mach 5 comes to life
Sorry K.I.T.T., you had a nice run there, but we're pretty certain the newly created Mach 5 could destroy you in the quarter mile. As the crew readies for the Speed Racer-inspired motion picture to land in May 2008, this blast from the animated past has finally become a reality, and it even parked for a photograph and an unveiling ceremony, too. The sparkly white ride sports a blinding red interior, stripped down dashboard, push button start, and a hint of nostalgia to boot. We know, next May is a long ways off, but feel free to click through and see the presentation of the tangible Mach 5 in all of its glory -- now go, Speed Racer, go.

And to make it truly authentic, there is even a dead monkey in the trunk.

Uh, I believe that there has already been a Mach 5 replica created. Russ Martin (local Dallas Talk Show host has one) see russmartin.com

Russ's Mach 5 looks good. This one looks better.
Matt B @ Jun 8th 2007 4:53PM
Wuhhhhhhh..
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..
*failed attempt of conveying a surprise emotion and then a realization emotion like they do in the cartoon*

What Speed doesn't know is that I'm his long lost brother, Racer X. And that actually this car belongs to me.
But does the G-Button actually deploy a homing robot?
gjkiii @ Jun 8th 2007 7:28PM
Where are the Buttons on the sterring wheel?
Russ @ Jun 13th 2007 2:25PM
The Mach 5 had 5 buttons on the steering wheel, each controlled one special function. From memory, there were the saws that flipped horizontally out of the fenders to cut down trees, the jacks that shot down from the bottom of the car to allow it to jump, the special tire grips that wrapped around the tires for extra traction, and I don't recall the other two.

So in other words its going to be a great year for HD DVD?
Tony Rayo @ Jun 8th 2007 7:11PM
Warner Bros. plays both fields in terms of releases, so they will likely end up putting the same content on both HD formats (although with their HD-DVD releases you get the benefit of also getting a regular DVD for just a few bucks more than their Blu-ray only releases).

Christina Ricci as Trixie? BS! It should have been Susan Sarandon!
TIMMAH! @ Jun 8th 2007 6:34PM
>Christina Ricci as Trixie? BS! It should have been Susan Sarandon!
Are you serious? So then who would play the age appropriate Speed? Micheal Douglas?
obiwan @ Jun 9th 2007 2:30AM
Michael Douglas is good, but he's not got the right look. How does Pierce Brosnan look these days? Still too young?
Also, Michael Moore for the monkey.
Razor @ Jun 9th 2007 7:41AM
With Moore as the Monkey and hiding in the trunk, Speed will never be able to finish a race let alone win one.
david @ Jun 8th 2007 6:44PM
Staring Katheryn Hepburn and Jimmy Stewart, LOL.
I'd love to see this movie!
Tony Rayo @ Jun 8th 2007 7:27PM
Ricci? Really? I've always thought of her as a dark character. In fact that's what has always kept me attracted to her (regarding looks and her acting). Hmm I'm watching "The Thomas Crown Affair", the original one, on the DVR... besides all the boxes the movie is in (too many frame cuts, or whatever they are really called), I nominate Faye Dunaway and Steve McQueen!
Rman @ Jun 15th 2007 4:41PM
It's only a pimped out corvette
SteveMB @ Jun 8th 2007 9:39PM
Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go!
PEZ @ Jun 8th 2007 11:56PM
Shut up.
obiwan @ Jun 9th 2007 2:32AM
Your niceness is legendary.
Chasqui @ Jun 8th 2007 11:30PM
gjkiii - You have a great point! How is the Mach 5 going to deploy its saws or wings, or "feet" to jump? The buttons are missing on the steering wheel! I can't remember how many there were but there were many functions. I think one even converted the car to "submarine mode"!
john @ Jun 11th 2007 1:54AM
speed racer should have been played by johnny depp;tricy should have been played by jessica alba;racer x;brad pitt;speeds mom;joan allen;pops as jack nickosen.
Tracy in Cary @ Jun 11th 2007 2:26PM
I remember seeing a Hyundai concept car about 10 years ago that was modeled after the Mach 5. Not a duplicate, but had similar stylings. Supposedly they were going to market it, but then it just disappeared.
Oh well. I'd love to drive a car that looked like the Mach 5.
Manny1147 @ Jun 28th 2007 4:14PM
Where is the tail fins? it is not complete with out them. The rest of the car is good but make it like the TV show
