Shiny new Dell XPS M1330 pics
You've seen a little of it before, and you know it's coming, but here's a few more photos to hold you over. Finally, a Dell you can take out in public.
[Thanks, Chris]

Hey, Dell has a pretty good laptop here. It really looks nice and super thin. Pretty nice.
"Finally, a Dell you can take out in public."?
Uh, I'm no Dell laptop user, but what's that suppose to mean? Are Dell laptops usually to ugly for Engadget? They might not always be the hottest, but Dell has some pretty good designed laptops (XPS, others). So there's no reason to throw that comment in. I've seen people use Dell laptops before, and they're not gagging.
If you'd click on, and read the reference to a laptop you can "take out in public", you'd understand.
@Khris: I did read the comment. It lead to the dumb story of Dell's bulky XPS laptop-that-should-be-a-desktop design. So what? The point is, is that making that comment wasn't really necessary. Unless you're a fanboy.
That "dumb" story is what the comment was drawing on. Obviously you just don't get it.
The comment has nothing to do with being a fan boy. It was to poke fun at the 20" laptop.
If you want to get girls (or boys) then nothing beats the sexy 17" Mac Pro. Not sure if it is any good but the chicks were swooning round it today at the Apple store.
Loser. I get chicks with my HUGE schlong.
Okay...I lie. I just shove an iPod down there.
Is the dell shiny or the photos?
Dell has yet to make an attractive and functional notebook. The "out in public" comment was well deserved. But I'd still use it for this model. It's got a decent looking keyboard but still suffers from LED-itis and unrefined casing with unthoughtful and uninspired angles and other protrusions. Not to mention an off center track pad obviously made for people with right arms longer than their left.
Dell, wake up. On a notebook you don't need to align the track pad with between the Q and P keys.
All notebook designers are still 10 years behind Apple. Take some apart someday to see how bad things get on the inside.
All notebook designers? You really need to look sony's way. Though they may not be the greatest company in other areas, notebook design is where they shine.
Take a look at teh new sony tz series ultraportable. Wow.

Not every laptop needs to be the color and consistency of a cookie sheet. Laptop designs between companies can range from Vaios to Macs, but they are all popular for various reasons. Most (read: not Apple) computer companies have to design to allow a large variety of components to go into their machines. That's why I prefer PCs to Macs (I'm pro-choice).
Also, for proof that NO laptop designers are ten years behind Apple, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Clamshell_iBook_G3.jpg, which came out in 1999.
Please. Macbooks are manufactured and have design contributions from the same Taiwanes factories as Sony, HP, Toshiba, etc...
Seni,
RE: the new sony tz series
Launching a new laptop with only an analogue D-Sub for external display purposes is quite wrong.
take a look at some sony and asus laptops before you open your mouth... you have an apple in your skull instead of a damn brain.
I've opened roughly 4 different dell latitudes, and they're great. Constructed in such a way that they can be taken apart in a neat, organized manner. Heck they even post their serivce manuals for users on their site to make ti even easier. My bro's taken his sony apart many times (not because it was busted, overheating, or swollen batteries *wink*), and that too is a masterfully crafted piece of engineering.
lol 10 years behind apple in terms of design. thats a laugh. Apples laptops seem to have had the exact same designs for almost 10 years....
Meh, my next laptop will be a vaio sz with the santa rosa chipset.
I think the audio ports are a bit poorly place (right below the mouse scratchpad.) I'm also not a big fan of the BrightGlare screens...
I would never buy a laptop with a reflective screen. Besides using them in a completely dark room, it gets annoying FAST when you and anyone else trying to see an area of the screen that is reflecting something have to move your head back and forth to avoid the glare. I hate having to try to focus my eyes through the reflection, what is the point, you're trying to see what's on the screen, not what's around you! lol
I totally agree with you. Why, in any right mind, do companies make there screens shiny and reflective? My Acer laptop has a shiny screen, which I unfortunately didn't notice till I got it home. As Randomness said, you can't see it very well unless in a dark room - and forget about using it outside on a bright day (even with brightness level up, it is still hard to see).
My Bro has a Mac Book Pro and apparently he said he had to pay an extra $150 or something like that to get the non reflective screen (that was over a year ago, Apple may have been smart enough to ditch the reflective screen by now, let's hope). But why give the option, it only makes sense to choose to see your screen, not your own reflection.
I completely agree. I was disappointed to see that they aren't offering any type of anti-glare option for this computer; it really, REALLY gets old fast when you have to use these screens in any kind of lighting conditions.
The reason I buy a small laptop is to be able to take it places, so I'd like to be able to see it properly once I get there.
The new Inspiron 1420 can be configured very similarly to the XPS m1330, and it *does* have an anti-glare option. I might go for that instead.
Though one thing... the LED option. Sony uses glossy screens on its SZ models, but I can still see those fairly well as opposed to other glossy screens. Is that because of the LED option? Or do they just have a better glossy finish?
If LED will make this laptop viewable, but I'd definately buy it, but if it will look similar to the m1210 screen... forget it.
Does anyone know?
I'm one of the few who can't understand why the keyboard is always at the north portion of the laptop. Why not have it at the lower edge?
That's so that you can have palm resting position while you type. If it was at the edge, it would make for very uncomfortable typing (unless you were using some sort of wristrest.)
idiot. ever used a laptop before?
@Trung -
I own a laptop, my fiancee owns a laptop and I work in the software industry. I've been around and used my fair share of laptops for the past 20 years.
@TIMMAH -
A coworker said this too but then I asked if anyone actually rests their wrists when typing. Two people in the company do this. Most people hover over the keyboard, their wrists never touching anything. I know I've never typed that way. I've never seen the point of wasting so much real estate on empty space. Shrug.
Apple has the hottest notebooks! Here: http://www.appledefects.com/wiki/index.php?title=MacBook_Pro#Improperly_applied_thermal_grease
Best comment :)
LOL priceless!
hmm.. i think that this may be the laptops our firm may be upgrading too shortly, i sure hope so! :)
but yes, i would agree that most dells are pretty fugly laptops.. i wish they would do away w/that super ugly Dell logo on the top of most, do a laser etching or something..
seconding Andrew's comment. Glossy screen?
Anyways, that's sexy.
For the specs only I was already thinking of buying the m1210.
I guess I'll wait some more to get my hands on m1330 though.
People seems to think laptop buyers priority is always sexyness, a nice case, or useless shit like that.
I'd rather have an ugly functional PC rather than some ultra sexy useless laptop.
But since I can have both...
Also, Samsung's releasing a Santa Rosa 12 incher soon... I'll keep an eye on that too. What I need it a ultraportable packed with some nice processing power (given the limitations, obviously).
I love MacBooks but this new design from Dell looks real sweet. Its clean, thin and light.
Put a Nvidia 8600 in this and I'll be all over it.
These new notebook are set to launch on Tuesday, June 26th. I was at a conference yesterday and spoke to a reliable Dell source.

After seeing this pic, I guess I won't be buying one. I'm using an XPS M1210 now and the glossy screen drives me nuts!
Off to go shopping for a Latitude D630.
Drooooooollll....
