Extravagant World of Warcraft setup includes 47 PCs, seven monitors
And you thought adding a trio of displays to your mobile gaming rig was hardcore. To be frank, calling this setup "extravagant" could be the understatement of the month (or year), but it's a tad hard to articulate how mind-blowing a 47 PC, seven monitor World of Warcraft installation actually is. According to the original poster, all but two of the machines are "diskless" to cut down on load times and energy consumption, and both he and his SO threw down for oh-so-comfy recliners to kick back and raid in. Of course, envious (and understandably skeptical) commenters have questioned the true motives behind such a momentous rig (farm much?), but it's not like this is the first time we've seen a fanboy take things to the extreme. oh come on. do engadget truly believe this is true. Do alittle search and you'll find out that this has been been proved fake. A wow forum i believe
Link?
May be their business is to assemble computers, so before they ship them to their customers and to load their requested software, they put in WoW.
the guy who claimed this was a setup that he and his girlfriend used to run 46 characters between them on raids was LYING. he swiped the pictures from elsewhere. this is a professional goldfarming setup that some business runs. these pictures were run months ago on mmoglider.com and this story was debunked days ago on Digg, where it first popped up and also after Gizmodo ran the story.
come on Engadget! we expect better investigation than this!
why would u need 47 pc's and 7 monitors to accomplish what two modest, year-old desktop boxes could easily do? and running a separate monitor just for thottbot or whatever is like admitting u cant even play the game without resorting to cheating... :P
I know everyone else is thinking it except for the WOW fanboys/fangirls. What a looser. You would think for a setup like that a normal person would go and buy something a little more well useful. It should be running an @Home program on those.
I was actually thinking what a loser, but some might have been thinking what a looser instead.
They should join the Engadget folding team.
Can you say thousands of points per second?
Folks, these are clear signs of someone who is in need of going to Cancun to get laid!
Why not 300...
But seriously, how do they control them all?
You'd be hitting the switching station nearly every 5 seconds...
btw, do they have one of those intercoms too?
I imagine you can get away with some crafty use of "follow" commands and scripts/macros to target-assist. Chances are you'd want to focus almost exclusively on DPS for the following accounts and control a healing-class so you can focus on keeping them alive during fights?
Im imagining that WoW guy from teh south park episode... anyways, to each their own.
I'm calling shens, no way that guy has a SO...
C'mon, get some nice speakers to go with the setup.
Anyone care to even guestimate the value of the system?
It is from the company mmoexchange.com . They buy/trade gold for video games . Usually they have their logo on these pictures... They run glider ( mmoglider.com )
Actually, the "why XX number of boxes" is a good question. With dual/quad core machines, virtualization, etc., why do you need one box per account? You'd think it would be worth the money to get slightly better machines and run multiple instances of the game on those?
In other words, what prevents you from "dual-boxing" on a single box?
In fact, you can "dual-box" on a single box; you only need 2 game accounts and one installation of the game.
A friend of mine does this all the time (purely legitimate purposes, believe me--his idea of fun). And I know his box isn't even as high-powered as mine is.
I agree completely, I played a TINY bit of WoW and I ran 2 instances of the game, and I'm sure I could have run even more. Some people go to great length to be huge noobs.
"Mom, more hot pockets!"
"That's ubber-cool."
More amazing than that picture are the posters trying to explain why someone would need 47 cpu's. Farming for gold? This has taken the D&D dorkery i saw people engaging in in high school to a completely new level. Unless your splitting atoms or working on DNA I am sure one PC to play a game is enough.
Well its not that hard to tell its a lie. Think for a few min, how many guys with multi-computer setups that play WoW have girlfriends? I rest my case.
For all you guys who think WoW players who spend a lot of time playing are generally fat ugly people, have a look at this linke: http://www.collegehumor.com/cutecollegegirl/EllieT
Not to mention mia rose, who also plays wow on my server (mal'ganis) www.miarosexxx.com
Will it blend? That is the Question!
I want to know what desk system that is. Would like to get a hold of the dual desk system myself. Anybody know what it is and where you can get it?
That guy is purely selfish, instead of wasting so much money on those stuffs, he can donate it to poor children that cannot go to school or even have difficulties with water to drink!!
Or even help with planting new trees instead of polluting world with the waste of the power plants!
Waste of money and time
