Touch-screen iPods by August?
Now that the iPhone is out, the Apple rumor mongers have shifted their attention to the next generation iPod. Well, some of them anyway. Specifically, will it or won't it feature a device-wide touch-screen running OS X -- a stripped down iPhone if you will. Enter DigiTimes, with their hit-or-miss record of Taiwanese sources, who are calling for a touch-screen iPod to launch in August. Sources at "upstream suppliers" claim that WinTek -- a former iPod panel supplier back in the black-and-white iPod days -- won the order for the capacitive touch screen panels. With Jobs himself calling the iPhone the "best iPod yet," we certainly don't doubt that Apple's working on a touch-screen iPod (possibly with WiFi). Our only question is will it arrive before January's MacWorld or not. [Thanks, Ben]

iPhone - GSM radio + 100GB HDD would be heaven for me.
I've already got a very capable phone (HSDPA, much better camera, MMS, proper Bluetooth support, proper 3rd party app support, etc.) and I refuse to downgrade to an iPhone.
All I want is an iPod with a big screen and a big HDD for video. Take my money, please Apple!
If the new iPod is indeed announced and at the right price point...well, it may "convert" me.

ugh... the constant drip drip drip of 'revolutionary' technology. It drives me freak'n crazy. Like the Chinese water torture, the moment I plunk down some grand sum of change, another drip of tech hits the ground.
Why isn't the iPhone the iPod killer? What does the iPhone lack that the iPod has? Larger hard drive? Great! Why didn't the iPhone have the larger hard drive, or an upgradeable hard drive, or the ability to attach via a USB port, an external drive? Riiight, because they want to soak you for all the loose change you have in your pocket. And the PC sector isn't any different.
No more money leaves my pocket until something truly amazing hits the ground. And the closest thing to getting my money is Surface, and it'd get my money if it wasn't the size of a VW Beetle.
Jeez people, stop buying the drip of tech. Demand the flood.
garble garble im a turkey (yea u boi) turk turk turk turk! t is for TURK!
Hope your not being racist on a public website? You F**king racist Tw*T!!

OMFG! You are such a wanker! Go suck a cock you homo!
I have a Ipod photo and have been waiting for this for 2 years to be released before I was willing to upgrade. I really hope this is true.
I control my iPod a lot without looking when it's in my pocket, basically skipping forward, backward, and adjusting the volume, very often when I'm riding my bike. Tactile buttons for basic navigation and volume controls would be nice.
Yea ... i remember doing that on my zune + choosing songs and playlists and artists or the radio.....
balls
from the source that I have who works close to iPod says they are looking at a mid-sept release. Additionally, I heard there is going to be a 160Mb iPod.
Wifi and bluetooth and solid state memory would be perfect. I'd buy that.
Enough about the iPod. What about the Zen? Everything is always iPod and Zen doesn't get an recogintion.
Creative is hard at work working on a new mp3 player with new technology that we've not seen before such as X-FI. It will be out before the end of the year.
Who gives a crap about the Zen... Oooo, they are gonna realease a touchscreen ipod, took them a while. If it comes out in August that will be one year after I got my touchscreen PMP player, Archos 604wifi. Can't wait for the next generation to come out. And Apple will never have the capabilities of Archos. If they allowed as much open source capabilites with music formats, video formats, internet capabilites, streaming media capabilites, and a dvr, they would lose money. Got to love that everything I have heard people wanting on the iPod is already out on an Archos.
Apple's problem right now is that the iPhone makes the iPod look really old.
I know, I know: they are different products. But using the iPod functionality in the iPhone feels a decade ahead of the "old" iPod. I have both the iPhone and an 80 GB iPod. I no longer carry the iPod with me on a daily basis, and it feels weird to use it's little screen that you can't touch and that can't even do the cover flow trick.
Apple created a chasm in their product line: the iPhone is way too expensive as an iPod, but the video iPod is not so cool anymore.
The reason the iPod sells so much is because you don't think you're getting a second-class product. Apple killed that impression when they introduced a new coolest kid in the block.
If Microsoft was smarter and had better taste, now would be the perfect time to release a Zune 2, while Apple struggles to fill the void between the way-too-expensive and the not-so-cool-anymore.
I don't have an iPhone, but I've seen enough videos of it in operation, yet I still don't think my iPod is outdated. I've heard some people say that Coverflow and finger-swiping is overkill for a media player and in some cases actually detrimental for use with very large music/video libraries (No search function, either). However, I'm certain iPhone updates will correct this in time.
I'm ready to purchase a new iPod MT as soon as it hits the streets for it's wide screen, larger drive, extended battery life and possible PDA functions. However, I insist I won't put my iPod w/Video 30 GB out to pasture. It will be kept in use as long as it functions. I've had it well over a year and a half and it's as perfect as the day I bought it. Maybe better because updated firmware somehow increased it's video playing time.
everybody on here loves to shag apple in the ass! there will be no more new ipods EVER
this may make me buy 1 and trade in psp :)
