HP intros white dv6500 CT Special Edition laptop
'Round these parts, we can't help but show a little extra love for anything slapped with an oh-so-coveted "limited edition" label, and for folks in the market for a new HP laptop (and residing in Japan, by the way), here's one especially for you. The dv6500 CT Special Edition is said to be limited to 1,000 units and will reportedly sport a 15.4-inch LCD, an Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 processor, VGA output, several USB ports, and a 1,280 x 800 resolution panel -- but it sounds like everything else can be customized to your liking. The most glaring difference here, however, is the snow white casing and Special Edition badges, which will surely incite envy in those who didn't quite get their orders in on time. Prices start at just ¥119,700 ($979) for the most basic of configurations, but you may as well splurge on the CTO extras if you actually manage to secure a unit, no?

UPDATE: Seems like this machine may not be limited to Japan after all, huzzah!

... just one more
reason to buy a mac.
FIR3BRDRACR @ Jul 14th 2007 4:05PM
hahaha, yeah right, a decently powered mac for under $1000?
that'll happen ::rolls eyes::
paloooz @ Jul 14th 2007 4:47PM
The MacBook is pretty good, but it has a small screen. To get a Mac laptop with a screen that big, you'll have to double the price unless you get the education discount, even then it's $800 more.
Steve @ Jul 14th 2007 5:05PM
its still gay though
Argot @ Jul 14th 2007 5:42PM
@Steve:
No, Apples products are gay, so very very gay.
Sean @ Jul 14th 2007 6:39PM
If you mean "gay" as a description for its impeccable style, then yes, I agree, this computer is totally gay.
It's definitely a nice looking machine, but 1280x800 in a 15.4" screen is terrible. I'd definitely rather have a 13.3" screen of the same resolution. No reason to go bigger if you're not gaining screen real estate. And like most other HPs, DVI is usually available via the port replicator. Dumb I know, but so it goes.

uh-oh its white. Look out for an Apple lawsuit

That's funny. That looks exactly like my HP Pavillion dv6233se Special Edition Entertainment Notebook PC. Exactly like it, in fact. I got a good deal, a few months back, and picked mine up for $699 plus tax. One for me, and one for my Mother, who was also looking for a notebook.

Special edition notebook with VGA output come on, you can do better than that.
julio @ Jul 14th 2007 4:32PM
This isn't news. HP has been offering special edition white dv6X00 series laptops in the United States for months through Best Buy and HP.com
Zcott @ Jul 14th 2007 5:06PM
I'm pretty sure it has HDMI too.
kojo87 @ Jul 14th 2007 5:08PM

Zcott @ Jul 14th 2007 9:15PM
Because white is cool!
Follow up: why is white cool?
BECAUSE APPLE SAID SO. NO ARGUING.

Office Depot carries those special edition DV6000 series special editions too... Not sure about the CT part but they are also white and have the same specs..I know because i work at one and i set the sign up myself!
Michael @ Jul 14th 2007 9:53PM
Doesn't look white to me, it looks silver with white specs/strips and a black bottom. How about all white HP. Come on you can do it.
pff1029 @ Jul 14th 2007 11:15PM
The only benefit of getting the special edition dv6500 in the US is the microphone, web camera, and fingerprint reader that all come standard. But there's a $50 premium on the SE compared to a plain black 6500 (and the white design is a little ugly, IMO).
kyle @ Jul 15th 2007 12:58AM
I have a HP dv6452se special edition in white right next to me here. Picked it up at office depot this week.
Alex @ Jul 15th 2007 1:16AM
These "special" editions are not really that great. They are essentially regular HP Pavilions with a 12 cell battery, the white panel lid frame, and an all silver-painted / polished keyboard. Other than that, they are the same. HP used to make these Special Editions with only Turion X2s, but now they have finally done the smart thing and use Core 2 Duos. This is the third HP Special Edition model with the Core 2 Duo if I recall correctly - Best Buy does carry them every now and then - although I cannot be sure its this particular model.

From Japan you say....doesnt the Shell looks a bit like Whale Skin ?
harpreet @ Jul 15th 2007 1:56PM

rawdney88 @ Oct 3rd 2007 12:24AM
you guys are so rubbish. the reason why hp made this version is for a couple reasons. a better colorway than just all black. and aslo, has anyone here ever seen the all blakc laptops in person by hp. they are dust and fingerprint smudge magnets like crazy. i looked at a couple at best buy and they were all covered in smudges and fingerprints so visible and ugly. my own fingerpints stuck on as well. it is one of those things where its so shiny that every time you touch it it smudges. the white one at best buy, (the special edition one) didn't look at all like any of the dirty black ones. simple, meek, and different. stood out from the rest and actually looked like a better version than the rest. the radiance imprint on the black laptops by hp are hideous. looks like a kids art project from 8th grade. "draw lines and circles everywhere" as to the flux imprint on the special edition laptop which definitely looks amazing.
