Prior to today, the easiest way to get the Beastie Boys on your Sonos Play:5 was to queue up your favorite songs from the trio. A new limited edition version of the speaker will always have the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers on it, even when you're listening to something else, thanks to a Beastie Boys-themed skin. Proceeds from the short run of speakers will go to charities that expand access to music and education.

Microsoft is teaming up with the fast food joint to give away limited edition Taco Bell-themed Xbox One X consoles that make the Taco Bell "ring" sound when powered on.

Samsung has unveiled a sweet-looking Galaxy Note 8 you might never get your hands on. The Korean conglomerate has designed a limited edition version of its extra large phone exclusively for 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics participants. It's fitted with a shiny white back glass to represent snow and wintertime, and it's adorned with a gold Olympics logo and similarly gold accents as inspired by the Olympics torch. Inside, it's still the same Galaxy Note 8 everyone else has, minus the pre-loaded PyeongChang 2018 themed wallpapers.

If you're more into real-life superheros than fantasy ones, Samsung's Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Games Limited Edition is now available at Best Buy for $850. Like the Batman Edition, this is a standard Galaxy S7 Edge on the inside, but the outside is another thing. There, you'll find a unique "black onyx" body replete with Olympic colors: A yellow-trimmed fingerprint sensor and speaker, red and green buttons and the iconic rings and camera tinted in blue. It also includes the Rio Olympics 2016 app with schedules, venue info and real-time updates and results.

If you've been holding off on playing Life is Strange until there was a really cool, commemorative physical release, your wait's over. Developer Dontnod's episodic game about time-traveling high school girls hits retail today with a pretty snazzy limited edition packing an art book, the game's soundtrack (featuring both licensed and original songs) and all five installments for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The collector's edition will run you $40, while the vanilla version is priced $10 cheaper. But! If you're an Amazon Prime member, Jeff Bezos is knocking $8 off the special edition and reducing the standard version's price by $6. That only applies to console copies, though.

  • Japan gets Nintendo's 2DS in limited-edition 'Pokémon' colors

Pokémon will soon be 20 years old. But before you reach for another egg-nog, here's how Nintendo is really going to twist your arm with the strength of nostalgia and bright primary colors alone. It's announced four different 2DSes (two that'll be exclusive) to launch alongside its incoming Pokémon remakes (the Game Boy classics Red, Blue, Green and Pikachu Yellow) for the 3DS (and 2DS, of course). The red and blue see-thru models have already appeared in Europe alongside the launch of the last Pokémon title, but it'll be the first time the 2DS has appeared in Japan at all. Cheaper Nintendo handheld and a Pokémon game bundled in? Sounds like a license to print money to me. Let's just pretend that Yo-Kai Watch doesn't exist. The 2DS bundles will launch in late February.

  • Sonos' limited-edition Play:1 has a design that's meant to blend in

Following its collaboration with Blue Note Records, Sonos has a new pair of limited-edition Play:1 speakers. The Play:1 Tone takes the same great audio quality we've experienced from the gear and drapes it in an all-white or all-black soft-touch shell. It may not be as visually striking as the Blue Note device, but that's kind of the point. It'll certainly blend in a bit better with your existing home furnishings or living room (or multi-room) tech as black and white speaker grills replace the silver/gray on the regular Play:1. Sonos just released an update for the Play:1 too, delivering improved audio that better complements a Sub when they're used in the same setup. There's only about 5,000 of each color, so if you're already planning to nab one, you'll want to act quickly when they hit the Sonos store on July 21st at 10AM CET for folks in Europe and 1PM ET for shoppers in the US and Canada. If you're fast enough claim one, expect to shell out $250 ($280 CAD, €250 and £220) when the time comes.

  • Sonos and Blue Note Records team up for a limited edition Play:1 (update)

    02.04.2015

Sonos released its $199 Play:1 speaker well over a year ago, and in that time, the company has been keen on improving the software experience for its audio gadgets. Tweaking that Controller app isn't all it was working on, though, and it turns out, a limited edition release was getting its fresh coat of paint... literally. More on that in a bit, but for now, meet the Sonos Blue Note Play:1: a collaboration with Blue Note Records that celebrates the heritage of the label's jazz roots alongside the audio company's focus on quality sound across genres. New colors are something we see from speaker and headphone brands on the regular, and until now, Sonos kept things black and white. Why, you ask? Well, the company viewed its line of wireless-audio tech as accent pieces as well as devices for listening to tunes all over your home. This meant neutral colors that blend in rather than stand out were a must.

  • BlackBerry's gold-hued Passport is even more audacious than usual

BlackBerry's Passport is already a fairly exclusive device by dint of the company's small market share, but the Canadian smartphone maker just kicked things up a notch. It's now selling a very limited edition (just 50 units) Black & Gold Passport that lets you flout convention with more gusto than usual. The gold-colored trim, while eye-catching, sadly isn't real like we've seen in some third-party mods -- c'mon, BlackBerry! However, you do get both a real soft leather back and an engraving that lets everyone know how rare your phone is. And despite the tiny production run, this is decidedly more affordable than the Porsche Design BlackBerrys aimed at celebrities and oil barons. It'll cost you a (relatively) modest $899 to score the Black & Gold Passport in the US, and $999 in Canada.

  • Samsung gives its metal-framed Galaxy Alpha a leather backside

Samsung's Galaxy Alpha was already a nice departure form its usual plastic wrapped phones. Now, the metal-framed option has a new material around back: leather. On the company's French site, four new devices surfaced, complete with back panels sporting the aforementioned scaly rawhide. However, the front of the phones keep the silver and gold hues we've seen on the regular models, and these new handsets are only available in limited quantities. In fact, there's only 100 of each. As you might expect, that kind of exclusivity and the addition of premium materials translates to a price tag of €649 ($790) -- €80 ($97) more than the existing options in France.

  • Unboxed: Sony's 20th Anniversary Edition PlayStation 4 is gorgeous, rare and sold out

Nostalgia is a powerful tool and Sony knows exactly how to wield it. You need only glimpse the 20th Anniversary Edition PlayStation 4 in real life to fully comprehend that. The limited edition console, which comes with an "original gray" paint job, patterned faceplate and colorful PS logo that hearkens back to the original PlayStation from 1994, is a rare issue -- only 12,300 exist in the world. And, not to rub it in, but we have one of our very own (no. 8,262 to be exact). What's more, if you didn't lock in a pre-order for one this past Saturday, December 6th, your chances of getting it now are pretty much slim to none. That's it. Game over. Suck it up and move on. After all, it's only a fancy paint job, right? (Yeah, keep telling yourself that.) Oh sure, you could probably find one up for re-sale online for the simple price of your soul, your unborn child's soul and several of your nearest and dearests' souls... and then maybe toss in the souls of a few innocent bystanders and your mailman's for good measure. But the point is, unless you're an obsessive collector that regularly swan dives into a money bin and has three anthropomorphic ducks as nephews, you'll just have to make due with a plain white or black PS4. Them's the breaks, folks. So why not deal with the disappointment by watching us unwrap the golden ticket that is this 20th Anniversary Edition console? It'll ease the pain. Promise.

  • This tattooed HTC One M8 is the company's latest Limited Edition

Of the many phone makers in the world, HTC is one of the best (if not the best) at churning out Limited Edition collector's items that focus on unique design and features. The latest in a long series of such products (most of which are highlighted in the gallery below) is a collaborative effort with Singapore-based design collective Phunk Studios, in which the group made a specially designed HTC One M8 with its own unique packaging. Only 64 of them were created (32 in gold, 32 in silver), and they're being used as a sneak preview of the collective's upcoming Wonderment exhibition. As you might expect, these unique devices won't be for sale, but HTC will be providing Engadget with one of them to give away to a lucky reader. That giveaway will take place in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for it!

  • Motorola Droid Ultra Limited Edition leaks, touts a go-faster racing stripe

If you think a red version of the rumored Droid Ultra just wouldn't be special enough, you're in luck. Frequent Motorola device leaker Houdabao claims to have photos of a Limited Edition model that would include a wrap-around racing stripe, much like a decked out muscle car. Unfortunately, there isn't much more to share. While Houdabao echoes talk of the Droid Ultra sporting a 5-inch LCD and a 6mm thick body, he doesn't outline the Limited Edition's full feature set. There's also no mention of its intended audience -- it may be only for Verizon staff, like the red Droid RAZR. Should the special-run Droid Ultra reach the public, though, there's a chance we'll learn more about it tomorrow. Check out a second photo of the Limited Edition after the break.

If you've been putting off buying a white Nexus 4, be ready to wallow in regret: you've missed your chance to get one straight from Google Play. Both the 8GB and 16GB versions are "no longer available for sale," a little more than a month after the company's online store started carrying them. A Google spokesperson told us that the alabaster phone has indeed sold out, and that the Play Store won't carry it again, as it was a limited edition release. All's not lost, though -- T-Mobile still sells the white Nexus 4, but you'll pay a slight premium for it.

Oh my. We thought the Oppo Find 5 was already good-looking in its original white, but it just took on some extra appeal now that there's a stylish red edition on the way. The 1080p smartphone hasn't changed on the inside, although that wasn't likely when the phone is just six months old. We're more concerned that we might not get our hands on one -- CNMO understands that the red Find 5 is a limited edition without a specific release date. Whether or not we get to see one in person, we'll at least have the photos at the source link.

When a TV, movie or games series is a big deal, it deserves, no, demands a limited-edition box set, preferably including either artwork or an article of clothing -- something that shows your commitment to the cause. Fortunately, Rockstar's decided to prep two different collector editions for Grand Theft Auto 5 players. The $80 version will include the physical game, artbook, and a blueprint map, alongside in-game ability boosts, stunt plane trials, bonus outfits and weapons. Dial the price up to $150, and you'll also get a branded security deposit bag, logo key, cap and even more extra content in-game. Those who decide to preorder the standard version of GTA 5 will get the keys to an Atomic Blimp bonus vehicle when all the editions land on September 17.
